So other than releasing the purple color iPhone variant, both for the Mini and the non-Pro version, which I’ve done the unboxing on my YouTube Shorts (Check it out here if you guys haven’t!), Apple has also released the new iOS 14.5 update, like unlocking your phone with your mask on, and many more.
Hey guys, Adam Lobo here from Adam Lobo TV and let’s check out what else is new about the brand new update, other than this amazing color.
So before I begin, while there are so many updates, some small and some fairly huge, I’m going to go through the significant updates, especially the ones which tie in to the updates that impact Malaysian users, so let’s begin!
#1. Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch
First as mentioned, is the ability to unlock your phone even with a mask on.
Now this is not a scientific method of unlocking as this is a new workaround to do so as you will need to have an Apple Watch from Series 3 with watchOS 7.4 or later.
And since I don’t have an Apple Watch to test this feature, apparently you can now access this via the Face ID & Passcode Menu under Settings to toggle on to unlock via your watch instead.
So yes, this is indeed a very welcoming feature while we all wait for touch ID to come back to the iPhones.
#2. AirTag support & Precision Finding feature
Next, would be the AirTag support and the Precision Finding feature
As mentioned in my reaction video of Apple’s Spring event, while I do find AirTags very appealing but what was extra sweet was the Precision Finding feature on the Find My App to accurately track your AirTag, where this feature as mentioned, is only available for the U1 Chip phones, which is iPhone 11 and 12 onwards which I am surely going to test it out when I get my hands on the AirTags.
And speaking of which, if you guys get the AirTags where would you put it besides your car keys?

#3. New Apple Emojis
Next, are the new Apple emojis like heart of fire, mending heart, beards for all, different skin tones for couples, which was nice.
And there are revamped icons like the headphones changing to the AirPods Max and the syringe is without blood in it, probably to represent vaccination.
#4. Siri Music Playback Options
Looking at the next update, are the preferred options for music services to play songs when you ask Siri to play a song, which works not only for Apple Music as usual, but also on Spotify as well.
#5. Apple Music Updates
And speaking of Apple Music, Apple has also unveiled City Charts which combine plays and additional signs of local popularity to rank the top 25 songs gaining momentum with listeners locally, where there is a Top 25 list here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
While there are a lot of other updates like Motion Artist Detail Pages, Record Label Pages, and searches for that, my favorite part is the Lyrics Sharing Feature where you can share a certain part of the lyrics of the song and post it on Instagram Stories, Facebook and Messages as well, instead of typically sharing the song title and the artist only.
And speaking of Messages, you can actually share the music or the particular lyrics, without leaving the conversation, which was quite neat.

#6. Siri Enhancements
Speaking of Siri, there are a variety of Siri Voices like American, Australian, British, Indian, Irish, and South African, based on four voices for American and two voices for the others.
#7. Apple Podcast Redesign
Next, iOS 14.5 also gives the new look for the Apple Podcast App, as mentioned during the Apple Spring Event, where there was a channel-like look and just a way better and cleaner interface for the whole app. Then there are other features like Follow shows and Save episodes to easily access those podcasts back again.
#8. Clips App AR Spaces Update
Then finally, a cool update worth mentioning is that the Clips app has been updated to version 3.1 to take advantage of Lidar sensor-equipped devices like the iPhone Pros and the iPad Pros, where there are seven AR Spaces to choose from like Prism, Confetti, Disco, and more. So yes, good news for those of you who use these features a lot.
