Google I/O 2021 starts today and as with every I/O, Google is expected to release their latest iteration, Android 12. The last few weeks have been big in terms of leaks for Android so here is everything we know so far about the upcoming Android 12 release.
The photo above is a leak by none other than Jon Prosser which shows off certain new UI elements of Android 12. Jon has had a very good track record when it comes to leaks but with every leak, do take things with a pinch of salt as not everything might make it to the final release. So let’s break down everything here.
Many leaks have pointed towards Android adopting new widgets that will be similar to the ones found on iOS, namely the Smart Stack widget set up. XDA Developers had leaked a few months ago that there will be several changes in the UI and widgets in Android 12 with the update said to bring new themes and very different design language for the widgets. The developer preview of Android 12 that was released a few months ago has also shown several UI tweaks including stacked widgets and a larger clock for the Lock Screen display.
In his new episode of Front Page Tech, Prosser showed off a video introducing Android 12 that showed off an updated notification design, a new keyboard design, a new Lock Screen clock design all of which seem to compliment and confirm the previous leaks by XDA Developers.
Android 12 is looking like it is going to be the biggest change Android has had in many years and along with certain privacy improvements that are rumoured to happen, it is looking like a really good update. One that Android certainly needs.
