Ahead of it’s annual I/O conferences, Google has teased “a brand new wear version” which could indicate changes to their WearOS software. WearOS has not been the best in terms of software and it is long overdue for an overhaul.

The description on the webpage certainly hints at an updated Wear OS. However, it is unclear whether Google is suggesting an all-new interface-level update or changes in the components building the wearable platform. However, the ultimate aim would be to take on watchOS that is available on the Apple Watch lineup.

This could be also Google getting ready to release their long rumoured Pixel Watch and this update could be designed with the Pixel Watch in mind which is rumoured to launch in late October.

In yesterday’s Tech Quickie, we reported about Apple releasing the lossless audio feature for Apple Music but Apple today has confirmed that while lossless audio will be coming to Apple Music, it will not be able to be taken advantage off through their top tier AirPods Max even if it is plugged in or through their HomePod speaker.

It makes complete sense that the AirPods and AirPods Pro have no way of playing lossless audio. They’re totally wireless, and Apple supports the AAC codec over Bluetooth. AAC sounds plenty good, but it’s nowhere near the bit rate of CD-quality or high-resolution tracks. However it is pretty weird that Apple would release this feature without a device that is compatible with it.

It will be interesting to see how the future line of AirPods and HomePods look and it will be interesting to see if they support this feature as well.

3. Samsung shows off new foldable tech

Samsung has been the pioneer in terms of foldable tech over the last few years and has always been the king of displays so new foldable tech from them surely is exciting.

SamMobile has spotted certain concepts that have been shown off during the Display Week exhibition which includes a multi-foldable mobile display and a 17-inch foldable display as well. The first concept shown off is a display that folds out to a 7.2-inch screen, similar to the one found on the Z Fold 2 but this display adds an extra fold. Samsung Display is also showing two concepts for bigger panels, including a 17-inch foldable OLED that’s tablet-sized when folded and can function as a monitor when unfolded. Finally, there’s a more traditional-looking laptop display; it doesn’t fold or flex, but it does include an under-display camera.

While these are just concepts for now, it will be nice to see Samsung adopt some of this tech in their new line of foldable devices slated to drop later this year.
