So Redmi is and always has been known for releasing phones that give you the best bang for the buck, and their Redmi Note 10 5G is no different. So here is my unboxing and my first impressions of the Redmi Note 10 5G!
Unboxing
Taking a look at the box, there is the Mi Logo on the top right, the visuals of the phone right in the middle and Redmi Note 10 5G branding at the bottom.
On the bottom of the box, you will find the specs of the variant you picked and the color of your choice.
Opening the box, reveals another smaller box which contains the SIM ejector pin, the user guide, and the clear phone case.
Then you will find the phone itself. Underneath there is the USB-A to USB-C cable and an 18-watt fast charger.

Build Quality
Now looking at the build of the phone, it comes with a full plastic shell with a matte finish at the back. The matte finish is a nice touch as it makes the phone look more premium and makes it not look too much like a cheap plastic phone.
I also did find certain hollow spots near the camera area of the phone which can be pressed in slightly, but it is nothing too alarming. The phone is also rather light which makes it easy to hold.
This graphite color that I have is also a rather muted color which makes it not stand out too much. which I like but that is down to personal preference.
So overall, I would say the phone does not feel very cheap and does give off a slightly premium look.
Now looking at the ports and buttons, over on the right you have the volume rocker and below that you have a concave power button that also doubles as a fingerprint scanner. On the top you have the very rare 3.5mm headphone jack and next to it you have the staple IR Blaster that comes with Xiaomi and Redmi devices and a secondary microphone.
On the left you have the SIM slot which has one SIM card tray and one hybrid slot that accepts a second SIM or a microSD card. Over on the bottom you have the main microphone, the USB-C charging port and the speaker grill.
Display
Now looking at the display, the phone has a 6.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD 90Hz panel which in 2021 is the bare minimum for a midrange smartphone. Upon first impressions, the display did look good. It has not the best but very decent viewing angles and watching content was no issue for me at all. The hole punch camera to me does seem a little bigger than other phones I have used, but it does not affect the overall experience.
Camera
Now in terms of the camera, the Redmi Note 10 5G comes equipped with a triple camera setup, but really it is only one useful camera in my opinion. It has:
- a 48MP f/1.8 26mm wide lens,
- a 2MP f/2.4 macro lens, and
- a 2MP f/2.4 depth camera.
With this, I feel like Redmi should have at least an ultrawide camera in this setup, as most phones in this price range do come equipped with one, so it does not make sense as to why they left that out in my opinion.
Then the front facing camera is an 8MP f/2.0 lens.
The rear camera shot decent photos in good lighting but I have not been able to fully test them out yet, so stay tuned for my full review.
The phone shoots 4K video at 30fps and 1080p video up to 120fps while the front facing camera only shoots 1080p at 30fps. Pictures of the front camera also look decent but I will need to test it out more before giving my full thoughts.
Specs
Now looking at the specs of the device, it comes with a MediaTek MT6833 Dimensity 700 5G. This is a chipset built on the 7nm process. In terms of Snapdragon processors, this chipset is equivalent to the Snapdragon 600 series of processors. It also comes equipped with the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
As the name suggests, it does have support for 5G so that ensures the phone is future proof, which is a nice touch in my opinion. The chip is also rather power efficient so that coupled with the 1080p display will help preserve battery life.
Battery
Speaking of battery life, the phone has a 5,000mAh battery, which was a surprise because the phone feels rather light. The phone charges up to 18W which while not the fastest, is expected for a mid-range device. The big battery and the power efficient chip should provide for some good battery life so I am excited to test that out as well.
Software
In terms of software, the phone comes pre-installed with MIUI 12 on top of Android 11. MIUI 12 has been a buggy experience for me but with the 90Hz display, this phone ran smoothly and I have not had any frame drops or hiccups.
But the only problem I faced was with Netflix as I was asked to update the app, there was a message that says Netflix is no longer compatible with the device, so I hope that Xiaomi fixes this in a software update.
