OPPO’s Thinnest Foldable Breaks ALL Rules: OPPO Find N5 Hands-On

Foldables have always had one big problem—compromise. Too thick, bad software, or even an ugly crease. But this OPPO Find N5 is so thin they had to redesign the USB-C port just to fit it in. And it talks directly to your Mac too.

So, is this the foldable that finally gets it right?

Design & Build

Currently, this is the thinnest book-style foldable in the world at just 8.93mm when closed. That is almost 30% thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6. When fully open, it is thinner than a typical USB-C port—to the point where they needed to redesign the USB-C port. And yes, the thinness is also very comparable to a headphone jack.

Because of how lightweight this is, it feels amazing in the hands whether it is unfolded or folded. One interesting fun fact is that this entire phone, when folded, is just 2g more than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, as this is only 229g.

It comes in two colors: Cosmic Black, which has a matte finish, and Misty White, which I have here. Once again, since the OPPO Find X8 Pro, this is a very nice white finish done right.

There’s an official rating of IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9, meaning it is capable of handling everyday splashes and even high-pressure water jets. So yes, bring this to your next water gun fight and use it as a shield!

It also uses the Titanium Flexion Hinge, a 3D-printed Grade 5 titanium alloy, which makes it 36% more rigid while being 26% smaller. It has seamless movement with no looseness when partially folded.

There’s even a TÜV Rheinland folding certification for this, and OPPO claims that this new foldable aims for a 9-year usability span with testing based on extreme conditions.

Display

One thing that OPPO has always done better than any other foldable is minimizing the crease. The crease here is now 50% shallower and 10% narrower than before, so you can barely even see it.

The outer display is a 6.62″ AMOLED screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 1-120Hz refresh rate LTPO display, and 2,400 nits of peak brightness—one of the brightest outer screen foldables out there.

The inner display is a massive 8.12″ AMOLED screen, making it the largest book-style foldable display ever. It is also the sharpest inner display yet at 412 PPI, with 2,100 nits of peak brightness.

The anti-reflective film provides better visibility indoors and outdoors. Based on my first impressions, if you love watching content, this beats any foldable in size, clarity, and brightness. It also has Dolby Vision HDR.

My only gripe is the speakers—because the device is so thin, the two speakers sound very thin as well. That is the trade-off of being so slim.

Cameras

OPPO is going all out with the Hasselblad Master Camera system. There is:

  • a 50MP main camera (21mm, f/1.89) with OIS;
  • an 8MP ultra-wide (15mm, f/2.2);
  • and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens (70mm, f/2.7) with 30x AI telescope zoom.

The selfie camera is an 8MP f/2.4 lens.

I did some test shots, and as expected, they turned out great.

But the real star here is the AI-powered periscope zoom. The 30x AI telescope zoom actually retains details that most foldables don’t even attempt.

There’s also a telemacro capability that allows focus as close as 10cm for detailed macro shots. However, when it comes to macro shots, I still think vivo takes the cake.

Hasselblad portrait photos on OPPO phones have always been great, especially for skin tones. The Hasselblad color tuning is really nice, adding that signature photography vibe.

Performance

This device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite—the latest and greatest from Snapdragon—paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

OPPO has also added AI LinkBoost 2.0, which reduces gaming latency while improving speed. Based on my gaming test on Genshin Impact, it performed very well. Because of how thin it is, I almost forget that this is a foldable—whether I’m playing in its folded form or fully open.

There are many AI features from the flagship Find X8 series, like AI Eraser and AI Remove Reflections, which work flawlessly just like before.

And just like the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, the power button’s native assistant is Google Gemini. Even Google Circle to Search is here.

But among all the features, the most surprising thing OPPO pulled off is the O+ Connect app. Previously, this app was used to transfer files between iPhones and the OPPO Find X8 Pro. Now, it has been upgraded to connect to your Mac!

Based on my hands-on test, you can mirror your Mac screen on the phone, drag and drop files super quickly.

You can even fold the phone into flex mode to use the bottom screen as a trackpad—something I never thought I’d say for a non-Apple device.

And since I’ve been a Mac user for 22 years, this is such an amazing feature—something I truly appreciate.

Battery

Moving forward, another interesting thing is that OPPO managed to fit in a massive 5,600mAh battery. This is a second-generation silicon-carbon battery with 80W SuperVOOC wired charging, capable of going from 0 to 100% in just about 47 minutes.

Even better, it supports 50W AirVOOC wireless charging, the fastest wireless charging on any foldable right now. But that’s not all—it also has magnetic wireless charging, which, honestly, every foldable, or actually, every smartphone in 2025, should have by now.

Conclusion

So, while the OPPO Find N5 seems to be the best foldable right now, checking all the boxes to be the one.

The only thing that might hold it back is the software experience. But with ColorOS 15, OPPO is putting in serious effort to make it user-friendly—especially for those familiar with iOS, and now even Mac users.

But the real question is: are you willing to switch?
