How Samsung Is STILL Dominating The Smartphone Market

Samsung is totally dominating the smartphone market. But how is that even possible when there are 7 iPhones in last year’s top 10 most shipped smartphones? So, how exactly are they dominating it when it looks like they’re losing?

Well, it’s simple: the one providing displays to Apple is Samsung. And that’s the case for other brands such as OPPO, OnePlus, Pixels, and more.

How Samsung Is STILL Dominating The Smartphone Market

But why is Samsung helping its biggest competitors? Well, I’ve searched the entire internet to find out, and here is what I found which you really need to know.

Display Dominance

Firstly, let’s look at how Samsung started off. They began as a small trading company and then moved to tech. They spent lots of money in R&D and now contribute about 20% of South Korean GDP.

But still, why is Samsung helping Apple and all of the other companies? Well, because they can! Hear me out.

How Samsung Is STILL Dominating The Smartphone Market

Firstly, Samsung makes the best OLED and AMOLED displays in the world, especially the LTPO ones that go from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. And this display is best to save battery and is great for the eyes too, which Apple calls the ProMotion Display in their marketing campaigns. So, they’re using this in the iPhone 13, iPhone 14, 15, 16 Pro, and the Max models.

But Samsung has a factory of its own where they also mass-produce displays for their phones. So why not just make some “quick money”? Well, in this scenario, “quick” means literally millions of dollars just by using the same machines they already own for themselves.

And Apple, who is known to be particular about quality, does not want any issues with their display. And since they know that Samsung has been in the display game for the longest time, they go with the latest and the greatest display tech, which is what Samsung provides. So it’s like Apple says, “We need the best display ever.” Samsung replies, “Say no more. We got you.”

But there’s one more thing that Samsung is improving on, which we’ll get into soon later on.

As mentioned, Samsung also makes displays for OPPO. You know that gorgeous screen that you see on their flagship Find X series? Yeah, those are Samsung panels, and the Google Pixel 8 and 9 series? Those use the Samsung OLED screen too.

So, yeah, this is like Samsung’s group project where everyone else is just submitting it with their name on it.

Foldable Display Tech

But while Samsung is ruling the flat display market, they also revealed their very first foldable tech back in the year 2011. And of course, we saw a full-fledged working foldable smartphone in 2019 for the masses, which is the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the very first foldable smartphone that is available for everyone, including you and I.

But it needed time to really deliver the best at that time. So, they continued to improve it year after year to give the best display on their Galaxy Z series with stunning foldable visuals without compromising on durability.

Fast forward to the latest Galaxy Z Fold6. Fellow creator Zack from JerryRigEverything gave a pass on their durability test for that. So, yeah, that’s like Gordon Ramsay saying that your Maggi Goreng is good!

But Samsung being Samsung, they thought to themselves, why not we just provide the foldable to other brands as well? Well, that is actually happening because remember the OPPO Find N series? Well, that is also using Samsung’s UTG or Ultra Thin Glass. And that was the case since the beginning.

Even on the latest OPPO Find N5, which I reviewed on Adam Lobo TV, that is also using Samsung’s UTG glass. But it’s not just OPPO, the OnePlus Open series? Those are also using Samsung’s display as well.

Rollable Display Tech & Future

But Samsung didn’t stop there because they even showed rollable displays way back in 2023, which by the way, while being rollable, can also support an in-display fingerprint sensor and even blood pressure sensors in their panels.

Yes, it’s mind-blowing how it’s even possible for a thin sheet of flexible glass and making the impossible possible very easily.

Saving Lives

And then Samsung realizes, “Oh, we are a smartphone company as well!” So, they started improving on their smartphones as well and even managed to save some lives. Sounds very extreme, right? Well, hear me out.

So, there was a true story of the Samsung Galaxy S20 stopping a bullet from ripping through a man’s midsection. Yeah, sounds crazy, but true.

And then when the phone’s frame was upgraded to Titanium, it helped a Ukrainian soldier to block a sharp nail impact, saving his life using the latest Galaxy S25 Ultra. So yeah, that was a crazy story but true too.

Conclusion

So yeah, with all of these findings and research, it clearly shows that while Samsung might not be topping the “sales charts”, behind the scenes, they are the real puppet masters of the smartphone world!
