New Xiaomi Patent Gives An Insight Into Future Design Traits

Xiaomi has always been a company that patents quirky and novel designs but the designs in their latest filing seem, pretty normal. LetsGoDigital, a news outlet has spotted that the company has filed documentation for three new smartphone designs.

The first design seems to be a future flagship that might be in the works. It looks similar to the Galaxy S21, with the camera module placed in a similar position. The camera module seems to occupy a large portion of the back of the device and seems to have four sensors. The top camera protrudes slightly from the module which indicates that it could be the main sensor. The two middle sensors look identical but the bottom sensor is housed in a rectangular body, which means it might be a periscope lens. There is also a large flash along the second and third lens.

The second deigns has an oval camera array with two large sensors and additional elements in between. It is not clear if this will be a triple camera setup or a dual camera setup and a flash. This design also features a vertical line that runs alongside the camera module. It could be a visual element, and the patent drawings don’t make this clear. The third patent just packs a large camera up top with two sensors below it, probably the most boring of the bunch.

Xiaomi has been known to have crazy features such as rotating under-display cameras and speaker-smartphone hybrids in their patents but in comparison, these designs seem pretty run of the mill. There is a low chance of the crazy patent designs to make their way to consumer ready devices but do not be surprised if these new patented designs debut on Xiaomi phones.

These patents were filed in March 2021 so it could be said that these designs are in active development but it is still unclear which model will feature these new designs.
