Motorola Revives The Defy Name

Back in February, Motorola announced plans to get back into the rugged smartphone market. We are now finally seeing the result of its partnership with device maker Bullitt Group. The company has announced the Motorola Defy, its new rugged midrange smartphone.

The Defy name is taken from a classic Moto device. The new Defy has a drop-resistant shell with a MIL-STD-810H rating and IP68 water and dust resistance. The back of the phone also has a textured rubbered like finish. The front of the device has a 6.5-inch HD+ display with Gorilla Glass Victus and there is also a programmable power button on the side.

Motorola have stuck to their usual design language as the phone has a square triple rear camera setup which packs a 48MP main sensor and two 2MP depth and macro sensors. This is very similar to what is available on the Moto G Power. Below the cameras there is also a Motorola logo placed over a capacitive fingerprint scanner.

The phone packs a Snapdragon 662 chip and has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. It also packs a 5000 mAh battery which can be topped up with 20W wired charging. The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC support, a detachable lanyard and an 8MP selfie camera. It runs Android 10 out of the box with an update to Android 11 and two years of security updates promised.

The Motorola Defy starts at €329 (~$399) in Europe. It will also be available in Latin America in the coming weeks. Colorways include “Forged Green” and black.
