2022 iPhones Might Feature Under-Display Touch ID

Reliable Apple leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has released an investor note in which he said that in 2022, Apple will launch two low end iPhones and two high end flagships.

Kuo said that the two low end iPhones and the two high end flagships would have the same screen size of 6.1-inches and 6.7-inches. He also reiterates that the new 2022 iPhones could feature an under-display fingerprint scanner and an upgrade to the wide-angle camera, making it a 48MP sensor.

In terms of names, the 2022 iPhones could be called the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. He also says that the iPhone 14 Max will represent the lowest ever price for a 6.7-inch iPhone.

“We reiterate our previous key specifications forecast for 2H22 iPhone models, namely that Apple will launch two high-end iPhones (6.1″ and 6.7″) and two low- end iPhones (6.1″ and 6.7″) in 2H22.”

“We believe the growth drivers for the new 2H22 iPhones will come from 1) the potential for under-display fingerprint support (using Apple’s own technology), 2) the lowest price ever for a large (6.7″) iPhone (we expect it to be under USD 900), and 3) a wide camera upgrade to 48MP for high-end models.”

He believes that the iPhone 14 Max will be priced under $900 which is particularly interesting given that the current iPhone 12 Pro Max starts at $1099.

This also indicates that Apple will get rid of the “mini” line of iPhones in 2022 which is something that Kuo has predicted earlier due to the poor sales of the device.

The report does not detail any design changes coming in 2022 but he has said that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max might ditch the notch for a punch-hole display. You can expect the 2022 line of iPhones to launch in September 2022.
