POCO M4 Pro: 4G vs 5G variant? THESE are the differences!

So POCO has just launched the 4G version of the POCO M4 Pro and while the 5G variant was launched in November last year, in this video, I will be letting you know what are the FOUR key differences between the previous release and this particular variant, and why you should probably get it right now.

Unboxing

But first, let’s see what comes inside of the box.

In a typical POCO fashion, the box comes in yellow, and this time around the model name “POCO M4 Pro” is written horizontally in front of the box instead, with the POCO logo at the top.

Opening the box, there is a smaller yellow box with the POCO logo on top as well, where you will find the SIM ejector pin on the outside, the manuals, and the clear phone case.

Then, you will immediately find the phone over there.

Underneath, there is the USB-A to USB-C cable, and finally the 33-watts Pro fast-charging brick.

#1 Design

So the first key difference between the previous 5G variant and this new 4G variant is of course – the design.

And here is where we need to take a moment to appreciate how smartphone makers like POCO at least take the effort of changing the designs of the smartphones, where a typical smartphone company would have just left it at the same exact design.

(4G variant on the left; 5G variant on the right)

Now, the design change comes mainly from the camera arrays at the back, where there is now a rectangular shape, and all of the camera lenses are not protruding at all, making the phone super sturdy when typing on a surface or even touching any other parts of the phone.

Then there is another slight change of having the headphones jack placed on top instead of the bottom, which I did like better as it separates itself when charging and listening to headphones on the phone at the same time.

And, last but not least, the phone is lighter at 179 grams compared to 195 grams on the 5G variant.

.

#2 Display

As for the second key difference would be the phone’s display.

Now, the obvious factor among everything when we use a smartphone is of course looking at the phone’s display, I mean how else would you use the phone right?

And one of the main things that really stood out to me was the really nice AMOLED Display on this new 4G variant compared with having an IPS LCD Display on the previous 5G variant, making it the first AMOLED screen on the M series of POCO smartphones.

Upon turning on the phone, I could immediately see the better screen quality on the phone, and even though both have the same 90-hertz refresh rate display, there is a slightly better fluid and smoother experience when navigating and scrolling around on the phone.

It also has a higher brightness of 700 nits and a peak brightness of 1000 nits, making it a great smartphone to use not only in brighter outdoor conditions but of course watching videos on the phone as well.

Then with the SGS Eye Care Display and the SGS Seamless Display, you are guaranteed to have an overall better experience when using this new version of the phone every single day!

.

#3 Cameras

Another reason why you would upgrade or change your older smartphone to a newer one is of course the phone’s cameras and the new camera array on the phone has also been improved.

We are looking at a higher 64-megapixel f 1.8 aperture lens compared to the previous 50-megapixel lens on the 5G variant.

And then besides having the same 8-megapixel f 1.8 ultrawide lenses, there is an additional 2-megapixel f 2.4 macro camera, hence we are looking at a total of THREE lenses instead of just TWO on the previous rendition of the phone.

And based on my quick test shots of the phone, the images definitely is a little sharper and the overall image processing for the other lenses was great too, making it a very good phone to post on social media easily, because the front camera has a slightly better aperture value of f 2.4 instead of f 2.5, and the selfie images were a bit brighter as well.

Now, of course, I am looking to test these cameras out further, so if you haven’t done so.

.

#4 Memory

As for the fourth differentiating factor of smartphones is the memory or storage options available built inside of the phone.

Starting from the RAM, what’s new is that on top of the built-in RAM options that you get, there is the Dynamic RAM Expansion support or the virtual RAM to make the phone’s usability quicker than before.

Now, while both phones have a microSD card slot to insert an external microSD card, this new 4G variant comes with an internal storage option up to 256GB, whereas the previous 5G variant had only a maximum of 128GB.

So you might not even need to go out and make a purchase of a microSD card, because I always felt that having 256GB storage is the sweet spot of having the right amount of storage to store enough images, videos, or apps, so you won’t have that sort of anxiety of having your phone’s storage running out of space very quickly as you can store up to 500,000 images with this amount of storage options!

.

Other Specs

And if you are interested in the other specs of the phone, this new POCO M4 Pro comes with a 5000mAh of battery as well with a 33 Watts Pro fast charging, that uses the MMT Technology for charging, which makes the phone charger faster than other 33 Watts chargers out there, where the charger comes inside of the box as seen earlier.

It has an IP53 splash-proof rating, dual speakers, other “smartphone essentials”, like a 3.5mm headphones jack as mentioned earlier, the IR Blaster and it comes shipped with MIUI 13 POCO Skin but on Android 11.

.

Conclusion

So, with this, because not everyone needs or even countries do have proper 5G support so this new 4G variant is indeed a very compelling option right now. It is priced at RM899 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant.
