This is the Xiaomi 12 Lite; it only retails at RM1699, which is about USD379, and although Xiaomi claims that this is a mid-range smartphone, but in actual fact, this phone is quite sneaky! As it seems like this is a flagship imitator!
#1 – Design & Build
Firstly is the phone’s design and build, instead of following the same curved shape as the siblings, Xiaomi 12 and the Xiaomi 12 Pro, the phone has a flat back and more squared-off design.
Now, yes, it is made out of plastic which is not a “flagship feature” BUT it also means that it is more durable and I love how it imitates a frosted glass even though it is NOT made of glass and with that making it “look” like a flagship.
#2 – Display
Number two would be the phone’s display as the phone has a flagship level screen quality with a very gorgeous 6.55-inch AMOLED Display, with up to 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and HDR10+support, and since it is the phone’s screen that we look all of the time, you will barely even notice that this is a mid-range smartphone, especially with the super-fast response time and the in-display fingerprint sensor.
#3 – High-Quality Images
The third way that the Xiaomi 12 Lite is imitating a flagship is with its high-quality images. Now, usually whenever a mid-range smartphone slaps on a high megapixel count for their cameras, most of the time they suck, as they don’t really perform as well as how a flagship really do.
But that was not the case as the 108-megapixel lens on this phone performed like a high-quality flagship, as seen in these images and videos over here.Â
Even the 8-megapixel ultra wide camera produced some flagship-level results, not to mention the amazing dynamic range as it could get on these two lenses.
Another thing that really blew me away was the performance of the front camera where it produced some extremely good results, especially on the portrait mode where the edge detection was great since it has Eye-tracking Auto Focus, yeap, this USD379 smartphone has Eye Auto Focus! And the amount of detail that you could get out of this 32-megapixel selfie lens on the blurred background was really flawless, and with that, it doesn’t go too far away from performing like a flagship smartphone.
#4 – MIUI 13 on Android 12
As for the fourth point is how the Xiaomi 12 Lite is one of the very few mid-range smartphones which has the MIUI built on Android 12 instead of Android 11, which performed very smoothly and was great for multitasking, making me ALMOST really loving the MIUI 13 skin on the phone.
#5 – No Headphones Jack & MicroSD Slot
Then the fifth sneaky but “not-so-good” point that the Xiaomi 12 Lite is imitating flagship smartphones is the fact that there is no headphones jack and no SD Card slot expansion, which honestly, I have already gotten used to it and if you haven’t got used to it, well welcome to the year 2022 my dear friends!
#6 – 67W Wired Charging
Finally, the sixth way that the phone is being a sneaky flagship is by providing us with a 67W charger that comes inside of the box that can charge the phone from 1 to 80% battery in about 26 minutes. Now since most so-called flagships don’t come with a charger, this could be something which is debatable, but that’s also very good to have.
Other Specifications
Now for you spec nerds out there, the Xiaomi 12 Lite comes with the Snapdragon 778G 6nm chipset, a 4,300mAh battery
with options of either 8GB (RAM) + 128GB (storage) or with a higher 256GB variant with a similar amount of RAM.
Now, this may not be flagship level specs, but let’s see how well does the phone holds during my full video review, so if you haven’t done so and do let me know what you would like for me to test further on the phone or should I do a comparison video with the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE to help you with your purchase decision.
