Apple AirTag 2: Key Upgrades and Enhanced Privacy
Apple is gearing up to release the second generation of its popular AirTag tracking device in 2025. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming AirTag 2, codenamed B589, will feature several key improvements.
Apple AirTag 2 to come with Enhanced Connectivity and Range
One of the most significant upgrades will be the inclusion of a new, more powerful wireless chip. This likely refers to the second-generation Ultra-Wideband (U2) chip, which promises to enhance connectivity and extend the range of the device. This improvement will make it even easier to locate lost items using the Find My app.
Privacy-Focused Design
Apple is also prioritising user privacy with the AirTag 2. The company is implementing a design change that will make it more difficult to remove the onboard speaker. This move aims to deter potential misuse of the device for tracking individuals without their consent.
A Year of Apple Innovation
In addition to the tracking device, Apple is expected to unveil a range of other new products in 2025, including a smart home display, new iPad models, updated MacBook Air and Mac Pro, a refreshed Mac Studio, and a new iPhone SE.
