Just like how Apple offers beta programmes for iOS releases, Google have a long history of offering beta programmes for their latest version of Android. With the launch of the Pixel back in 2016, they now have a dedicated suite of testing hardware with many users ready to test things out and Android 12 might be their most popular beta yet.
According to Android VP of Engineering, Dave Burke, this is the most popular beta yet. He announced this via Twitter after the launch of the second beta for Android 12. He did not however provide any numbers to back up this claim so it is tough to tell how significant this milestone is.
Android 12 could be the most popular beta due to the amount of changes it brings to the table. It is probably the most significant design overhaul in years as the previous two versions of Android have been identical in design. You would have to go back about four years to find an Android version that looks drastically different from what we currently have with Android 11.
It is no surprise that people want to test out this new version of Android but be reminded that this is still a beta and there will be many bugs. If you do not wish to have this on your main device, you can wait for the official release which is slated for August for Pixel device and will vary based on the different Android manufacturers.
