iPhone 17: A New Era of Performance, Photography, and Durability

Apple has introduced the iPhone 17, in addition to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. The device showcases significant advancements in its camera system, display technology, and processing power. The new device aims to improve the user experience with several key enhancements.
The iPhone 17 features an updated camera system designed for more versatile photography and video. The new front-facing Centre Stage camera utilises a unique square sensor, providing a wider field of view for selfies and video calls. This allows users to capture landscape shots while holding the phone vertically and enables AI-powered adjustments for group photos to ensure everyone is in the frame. The camera also supports Dual Capture, which allows simultaneous recording from the front and rear cameras.

For the first time, all rear cameras are now 48MP. The 48MP Fusion Main camera includes a built-in 2x Telephoto feature, while the 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera captures scenes with greater detail than previous models, making it suitable for wide-angle and macro photography.
The iPhone 17 features a larger and brighter 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display. It includes ProMotion technology, which adjusts the refresh rate up to 120Hz for smoother performance and improved power efficiency. A new Ceramic Shield 2 front cover offers three times better scratch resistance and reduced glare compared to the previous generation.

Powering the device is the new A19 chip, built on third-generation 3-nanometer technology. Apple states the chip’s 6-core CPU is 1.5x faster than the A15 Bionic chip, while the 5-core GPU is more than twice as fast. These improvements support enhanced graphics and mobile gaming.

The efficiency of the A19 chip, combined with iOS 26, contributes to an extended all-day battery life, providing up to 30 hours of video playback. The phone can also charge to 50% in 20 minutes with a compatible high-wattage power adapter.

The iPhone 17 will be available with a starting storage of 256GB, doubling the entry-level capacity of its predecessor. It will come in five colours: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white.
Pre-orders begin Friday, 12 September, with the phone available for purchase starting Friday, 19 September. Prices for the iPhone 17 begin at RM3,999.
