ROG and Xbox Unveil the ROG Xbox Ally X Powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Series
ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced a groundbreaking new series of Ally handheld gaming devices, developed in a revolutionary partnership with Xbox. The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X promise to redefine portable gaming with unparalleled ergonomics, seamless user experience, and cutting-edge AMD processors.
Designed for All-Day Comfort
Ergonomics have been paramount in the design of the new Ally series. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Xbox controller, both the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X feature larger contoured handgrips, redesigned palm rests, and custom texturing for extended gaming sessions. The ABXY buttons and joystick placements will feel instantly familiar to Xbox gamers, ensuring a comfortable and intuitive experience. The ROG Xbox Ally X further enhances immersion with impulse triggers for detailed haptic feedback in supported games. This basically confirms the leaked images that popped up online last month.
Seamless Xbox Experience, Unrivaled Flexibility
A key innovation of the new Ally series is its deep integration with Xbox. Upon powering on, users are greeted with a full-screen Xbox experience, offering controller-based navigation that any console gamer will find familiar. Quick access to settings and customisable widgets is available with a single press of the Xbox button. Despite this console-like simplicity, the devices retain the full flexibility of Windows, allowing users to access games and mods from other sources. The ROG Xbox Ally series seamlessly blends the simplicity of Xbox, the craftsmanship and power of ROG, and the versatility of Windows.
Powered by AMD: Efficiency and Extreme Performance
Under the hood, the new Ally handhelds now boast the latest AMD Ryzen processors. Specifically, the ROG Xbox Ally features the AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, delivering console-calibre performance with exceptional power efficiency in addition to an improved 60Wh battery for extended play. Meanwhile, for gamers demanding the ultimate in performance, the ROG Xbox Ally X is equipped with the new AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor, further pushing the boundaries of graphical fidelity and framerates.
Both devices showcase a best-in-class display for handheld gaming, offering 500 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate backed by FreeSync Premium, ensuring a smooth, tear-free gaming experience. They also leverage Radeon’s latest software suite, including AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), and AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) frame generation, which can deliver up to 60% better framerates.
In a forward-looking move, the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme-equipped ROG Xbox Ally X also includes an onboard NPU, providing built-in AI acceleration for future gaming innovations.
ROG will launch the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X this holiday season in select markets, with more regions to follow. The company will announce pricing and preorder details at a later date. ROG encourages interested consumers to sign up for notifications on the Xbox Ally family page and follow their social media channels for the latest updates.
