Black Ops 6: You Have to Pay Extra to Get Better Audio In-Game

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Introduces Paid Spatial Audio Option

In a surprising move, content creator Omeqa revealed that the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature an optional paid spatial audio feature. For a one-time fee of USD20 (~RM87), players can unlock a personalised audio profile that promises to enhance their in-game experience.

The personalised spatial audio tool, developed by Embody, is integrated directly into Black Ops 6’s settings menu. It uses advanced algorithms to create a unique audio profile based on the player’s head and ear shape, resulting in a more immersive and accurate soundstage. This feature will also be available in Warzone with the launch of Season 1.

While the option for personalised spatial audio is not entirely new, Black Ops 6 is one of the first major game titles to offer it as an integrated feature. Games like Final Fantasy XIV and Cyberpunk 2077 have previously partnered with Embody to provide similar services, but they often require separate purchases or subscriptions.

Is it worth the cost?

The jury is still out on whether Embody’s personalised spatial audio is worth the USD20 price tag. Some players have reported mixed results, with some finding it to be a significant improvement while others have claimed it doesn’t offer a noticeable difference compared to standard audio settings.

If you’re eager to try out the new feature, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches on the 25th of October. The personalised spatial audio option is compatible with PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
