HUAWEI Mate XT Tri-Fold Smartphone Released in China

After much anticipation, HUAWEI has finally launched their triple folding smartphone, the HUAWEI Mate XT. HUAWEI’s new foldable is the first of its kind and currently the only tri-fold device that you can buy today.

The HUAWEI Mate XT features a unique triple-fold design. It seamlessly transforms from a 6.4-inch phone into a 7.9-inch foldable device. When fully unfolded, it expands into a 10.2-inch tablet. Despite this intricate design, the device remains impressively thin and lightweight. Remarkably, it measures just 3.6 mm when unfolded and weighs only 298 grams.

Beneath its sleek exterior lies a flexible LTPO OLED display, which offers a 120 Hz refresh rate and supports 10 billion colours. Moreover, the device also comes with an advanced camera system, similar to the HUAWEI Mate X5. Specifically, it features a 50 MP primary sensor with PDAF and OIS, a 12 MP telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. In addition, it includes a laser autofocus module.

The innovative “Tiangong” hinge system allows for both internal and external bending, ensuring a seamless and gap-free folding experience. The large display is optimised for productivity tasks, making it ideal for email, financial management, multitasking, video playback, and AI-based features.

Running on HUAWEI’s proprietary operating system, HarmonyOS 4.2, the HUAWEI Mate XT offers a smooth and efficient user experience. To power its impressive features, the device packs a 5,600 mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and reverse wireless and wired charging.

Availability and Pricing

While the Mate XT is currently only available in the Chinese market, its innovative design and impressive features make it a significant milestone in the foldable smartphone landscape. The device is priced at CNY19,999 ($2,800/€2,550), translating to approximately RM12,480 for the 256GB version. The 512GB version is priced at CNY21,999 ($3,100/€2,800), or roughly RM13,760. The top-of-the-line 1TB model is priced at CNY23,999 ($3,400/€3,100), which equates to approximately RM15,040.
