HUAWEI Unveils Pura 80 Series

HUAWEI has officially launched its highly anticipated HUAWEI Pura 80 series smartphones, thereby signalling a significant push into the high-end market. Despite ongoing sanctions, the Chinese tech giant continues to defy the odds with advancements in chip technology, while also regaining momentum in smartphone sales. The new flagship lineup, meanwhile, features four distinct models: the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, Pura 80 Pro+, and the top-tier Pura 80 Ultra.

Design-wise, the Pura 80 Pro, Pro+, and Ultra models boast a distinctive round frame complemented by a multi-layer camera bump, while the standard Pura 80 retains a more traditional flat aesthetic.

All models promise a premium visual experience. The Pura 80 features a 6.6-inch flat OLED panel, while the Pro, Pro+, and Ultra variants step up to a larger 6.8-inch quad-curved OLED display. Users can expect stunning visuals with 3000 nits peak brightness, a 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate, a 1.07 billion colour display, P3 wide colour gamut, 460 ppi, and HDR vivid high dynamic content quality.

Photography capabilities are a major highlight of the Pura 80 series. The lineup incorporates a 50MP one-inch RYYB ultra-large main camera, which offers up to a 200% improvement in real-time image data processing compared to previous Pura models, alongside enhanced AI noise reduction and image colour boost. The Pura 80 Ultra model stands out with its TCG triple-real-time fusion technology, pushing the dynamic range to a remarkable 16EV, enabling the phone to capture scenes under virtually any light condition with unparalleled realism.

A groundbreaking innovation in the Pura 80 Ultra is the industry’s first-ever dual-lens switchable telephoto camera system. This system utilises two internal mirrors to support dual optical focal lengths of 3.7x and 9.4x (varying between 13mm, 22.5mm, 83mm, and 212mm), reportedly increasing the optical range by 129% compared to its predecessor, the Pura 70 Ultra.

HarmonyOS NEXT: A Refined User Experience

Under the hood, the Pura 80 phones run on HarmonyOS NEXT, HUAWEI’s proprietary operating system. The developers optimised this homegrown software for the flagship series, incorporating various system effects like mobile themes, and boosted overall performance by 36 percent with the new Ark engine.
