HyperOS 3 Incoming: Xiaomi Ends Support for Older Models
Xiaomi is rapidly shifting its focus to the upcoming HyperOS 3, which will be built on Android 16, effectively halting further major development on HyperOS 2. This strategic pivot comes alongside the announcement that nine of its smartphone models are reaching their end-of-life (EOL) status, with their final security patches slated for September 2025.

The move signifies Xiaomi’s commitment to its next-generation operating system, HyperOS 3, promising a refined user interface, optimised system performance, enhanced visual effects, and smoother transitions compared to its predecessor. While HyperOS 2 saw a recent 2.3 update that brought Android 16 to select devices, it appears to be HyperOS 3 that will deliver the most significant advancements. Xiaomi has reportedly ceased major improvement-focused updates under the HyperOS 2 label to channel all resources into the new OS.
Nine Devices Reach End-of-Life

Users of the following devices should note that they will cease receiving official updates after September 2025:
- Redmi A1
- Redmi A1+
- Redmi 11 Prime 4G
- Poco C50
- Poco M5
- Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
- Xiaomi 11 Lite LE
- Xiaomi 11T
- Xiaomi 11T Pro
For many of these listed models, the HyperOS 2 update was never even rolled out, confirming their exclusion from the HyperOS 3 support list.
The upcoming Android 16-based HyperOS 3 is expected to deliver a more optimised user experience. This includes enhancements to system performance, more fluid visual effects, and overall smoother transitions within the interface.
Xiaomi is rumoured to commence beta testing for HyperOS 3 later this year, with a stable release expected to coincide with the launch of the Xiaomi 16 series. The Xiaomi 16 series itself is anticipated to debut by the end of September 2025, suggesting a rapid transition to the new OS for its flagship devices.
