Malaysia Gets All-You-Can-Read: Kobo Plus Arrives with Millions of Titles
Rakuten Kobo, a leading name in digital reading, has officially launched its Kobo Plus subscription service in Malaysia, bringing a vast library of eBooks and audiobooks to local readers. The service, now accessible through the Kobo Books App and Kobo eReaders, offers unlimited access to over 2 million eBooks and more than 300,000 audiobooks, starting at an affordable RM27 per month.
This move comes as the global eBook market experiences significant growth, particularly in Asia. Valued at USD 18.02 billion this year, the market is projected to reach USD 22.76 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.78%. Kobo’s expansion into Malaysia strategically positions the company to capitalize on this growing demand for digital content.
Subscription Plans
The service offers three distinct subscription plans:
- Kobo Plus Read: Unlimited eBooks for RM27 per month.
- Kobo Plus Listen: Unlimited audiobooks for RM27 per month.
- Kobo Plus Read and Listen: Unlimited eBooks and audiobooks for RM35 per month.
This pricing structure caters to a wide range of readers, from those who consume multiple books per month to those who prefer to sample titles before committing to a purchase. The extensive catalogue features a diverse selection of genres, including bestsellers, literary classics, thrillers, romances, and nonfiction, with new titles added regularly.
Kobo is also highlighting the compatibility of Kobo Plus with its range of eReaders, including the Kobo Libra Colour, Kobo Clara Colour, Kobo Clara BW, Kobo Elipsa 2E, and Kobo Sage. These devices boast features like waterproofing and ComfortLight PRO for reduced blue light exposure, enhancing the reading experience for users on the go.
The launch of Kobo Plus in Malaysia is expected to appeal to the country’s growing digital-savvy population, including the existing base of over 200,000 Kobo members. By offering a comprehensive and affordable subscription service, Kobo aims to further solidify its position as a leading provider of digital reading solutions in the region.
