What if your next gaming laptop wasn’t just for gaming? What if you could crush AAA games at night, chew through 4K video edits the next morning, all with AI doing half the work for you? Well, this is the Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10, and it might just replace not one but two devices sitting on your desk because this laptop lives a “Double Life”. Plus, there’s one AI trick that might save you a subscription.
Overview
This Lenovo Legion 5 has AMD’s Ryzen 7 AI 300 Series processor and NVIDIA’s beefy RTX 5070, making it a serious contender in the gaming world. But it’s also certified with Copilot+ PC. Copilot+ PCs are designed to be the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever, which is meant to deliver top-tier performance for all of your needs, and it’s loaded with intelligent AI features to help you work, create, and just play around with.
Design
Design-wise, this is very thin and sleek, not typical of a gaming laptop because it removes all the loud and pronounced design elements that gaming laptops usually have that scream, “I AM A GAMER!” Instead, this has a smooth, slightly flat finish that is more common with mainline or professional laptops.
This stealth look is becoming a trend these days because more people are carrying their gaming rigs to offices, coffee shops, and even classes as well. It turns out that “glowing dragons” or “fiery dragons” or stickers don’t go well when it comes to going into board meetings… unless you work for a dragon, of course.
I also love how it is portable, weighing just 2 kg. So, you can just put this laptop in a bag and carry it around without feeling like you’re breaking your back.
But despite its professional look, it still comes with some “gamer-riffic” RGB, a full keyboard with a number pad, too, with customizable lighting effects. So yeah, if you look closely, you can actually see that it still has the gaming laptop in its DNA, so to speak. But at the same time, nobody will look at this twice if you were to bring this to a business meeting or a classroom. So yes, instead of screaming that “I AM A GAMER!” as mentioned earlier, this laptop will make you whisper, “I’m a gamer.”
Specs Overview
The laptop comes with a 15.1-inch OLED display with a 2560×1600 resolution and a high 165 Hz refresh rate, which is perfect for immersive gaming and color-accurate creative work.
But under the hood is where things get a little more interesting because this has the brand new AMD Ryzen 7 AI 350 processor with up to 12 cores and 36 MB of cache with a new Zen 5 CPU architecture.
This processor not only gives you excellent CPU performance for gaming and multitasking, but it also features a dedicated Neural Processing Unit, or NPU, for accelerating the AI task locally or on the device. And this is arguably the world’s best NPU for Windows AI 11 PCs, giving up to 3 times the improvement in AI performance over the previous generation.
Then, paired together with that is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU, which, of course, brings some serious graphical firepower and the latest ray tracing and DLSS technologies for stunning visuals in-game.
The laptop also comes with 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. There’s also an 80Whr battery which powers it all and is charged by a 245W adapter, and the adapter is included as usual.
On the software side of things, the Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10 is operating on Windows 11 Home, and since it is a Copilot+ PC, it also comes packed with many AI features like Co-Creator, Live Captions, Windows Studio Effects, Recall, and more. But Lenovo also has its very own AI features, like an AI assistant through the Lenovo AI Now program.
But it also comes with quite a generous amount of ports. It has:
- 2 x USB C ports with a PD 3.0 and DisplayPort 2.1 support,
- 3 x USB A ports,
- 1 x HDMI 2.1 port,
- 1 x Ethernet port, and;
- 1 x Mic and a Headphones combo jack.
For staying connected, there’s Wi-Fi 7, which in the year 2025 should be a standard for all laptops. It also has Bluetooth 5.4.
But among all, for those late-night gaming sessions, the Eclipse Black keyboard on here features a 24-zone RGB backlighting.
Plus, as a Copilot+ PC, it meets Microsoft’s stringent requirements for on-device AI capabilities. So, you’re having something which is very fast, efficient, and smart performance across the board.
Experience
Specs are one thing because the question that you would usually ask is, “How is it like using it every single day?” Well, the biggest yes, firstly, is of course it being very thin and light to bring around, but I did find myself wiping off the laptop a lot because it does attract some fingerprints, so keep that in mind.
Then the OLED screen is one of the nicest that I’ve used on a laptop. The colors are nice and bright with punchy deep blacks, which makes it a really lovely display for gaming or even watching videos on.
But I do have a very interesting relationship with this keyboard, though, because on one hand, it offers one of the best typing experiences that I’ve ever had on any laptop because it had a perfect travel when it comes to the keys, which wouldn’t cause any fatigue when you’re typing it for long periods of time.
But it can be a little constrained because the keyboard has to squeeze in a full number pad. But that is, of course, very understandable because while it would work on a bigger 17″ or a 19″ screen, Lenovo wanted to keep this laptop compact at just 15”. So that was the trade-off that they had to make.
The speakers, though, are good enough for casual use like watching YouTube videos or even Netflix. But I do recommend you use headphones, especially if you want to have a more immersive audio gaming experience, which I’ll let you know how the gaming experience is later on.
Legion Space
Because there’s one thing that I really loved on this Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10, which the Lenovo Legion Go S also has, which is the Legion Space. In case you’re not familiar, Legion Space is a dedicated game launcher, which also functions as a gaming and a control hub for the laptop. Yep, the same ones on the Lenovo Legion Go S that I’ve reviewed a few months back.
Over here, you can see which games you have installed as well as other game launchers like Steam or PC Game Pass. The reason why I feel you will really love this is because it basically consolidates everything which you have installed, all in one easy-access area.
Then using Lenovo’s built-in Lenovo AI Engine+ that’s powered by the Lenovo AI Core, you can also use the hub to control the power modes of the laptop where this mode allows you to adjust the laptop’s thermal design power for better performance where there are three different default power modes, which are Quiet, Balance, or Performance.
And there’s also a fourth Custom mode that you can use to play around with to your liking. But you’ll need to be extra careful when you’re playing around with this, though, because you need to avoid pushing the laptop beyond what it’s supposed to do. So, keep that in mind.
You can also customize the keyboard’s RGB lighting over here, and you have the option to buy games through this Legion Space as well.
But one feature that I find very interesting is the fact that you can configure which GPU to use, either the eGPU or the iGPU only for gaming, or just set it to Hybrid where the laptop itself determines which GPU to use depending on which games that you’re playing.
This is a feature that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before, and it is a really cool idea from Lenovo because using the iGPU would mean a lower thermal design power. So, you would use less power and get a better battery life if you’re not connected to a charger. Nice.
Gaming
As for gaming, the RTX 5070 is an absolute beast. During this review, we tested four games:
- Cyberpunk 2077,
- Red Dead Redemption 2,
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and;
- RoboCop: Rogue City
Spoiler alert? It all ran like a champ!
Cyberpunk ran at 42 FPS with ray tracing set to overdrive. And if you turn the ray tracing down to low, you get an average of 72 FPS during gameplay.
Meanwhile, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 averages about 100 to 135 FPS with graphics and the texture settings set at the highest.
Then, Red Dead Redemption 2 was also set at the Ultra settings and managed to run around 63 FPS on average.
Then on RoboCop: Rogue City, it also ran around 120 fps with the graphics set to the highest, which is the Epic settings.
All of these games were tested at 1440p resolution with DLSS turned on.
The laptop did get a little warm after prolonged gameplay, which caused the fans to kind of ramp up a little, but this is only because I played all four games back to back. So, if you’re playing it individually, it will be totally fine.
But what’s nice is that Lenovo’s Coldfront Hyper-cooling system keeps everything stable. So, even with the fans working overtime, I did not notice any significant performance dip during my whole gaming experience.
Another cool thing is that you can enjoy 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on the Lenovo Legion devices. This means that you have access to tons of the latest games, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 FOR FREE, as soon as you set up this laptop. So yes, thank you, Lenovo.
AI Features
This Legion 5 is just not a gaming beast because it’s also an AI-supercharged device. Seeing that this is a certified Copilot+ PC, you’ll find a plethora of cool AI features built in. Copilot works seamlessly, allowing you to search for information and generate images from your prompts where it even has a dedicated Copilot key for quick access on the keyboard itself.
Lenovo also includes Live Captions, which provides live translation for videos, a very useful tool for anyone.
Another fun feature is Co-Creator, as mentioned earlier, where this allows you to turn your rough sketches on Microsoft Paint into a polished AI-generated drawing. For example, if you do a simple sketch of a cat, the AI will finish it for you and add some very important details into that exact sketch.
Then, Generative Fill and Erase works like Adobe Photoshop, allowing you to erase an object in your drawing and use AI to intelligently fill the space. So yes, you can say bye-bye to those annoying subscriptions that Adobe has and that will save you a subscription fee, as mentioned earlier.
For video calls, there’s the Windows Studio Effects V2. It enhances your image with new features like Eye Contact Enhanced, Portrait Light, and Creative Filters.
But one of the most useful features is called Recall, where it continuously takes screenshots of your screen and saves the text, allowing you to search for anything you have seen before. For example, if you saw a product online, but you just can’t remember where, you can use this Recall app to find it by searching for keywords.
In addition to those built-in Microsoft features, the laptop also includes some of Lenovo’s own AI tools. Apart from the Legion Space, Legion has also included the AI companion called the Lenovo AI Now, which is Lenovo’s approach to AI. But it is also different from what else is out there because this uses a hybrid model where it combines what’s on your computer with powerful processing to give you a smarter, safer experience.
So basically, it has two core AI assistants. There’s the Knowledge Assistant, which is super helpful for your work. You can ask it to find files, answer questions, summarize long documents, and more, where it can even write a text for you, all based on your personal data. This is a big one because all of the processing is done locally on your PC. So all of your sensitive information stays private and secure.
Then there’s the PC Assistant. This is more for technical stuff, where it makes setting up your PC easy and making it run at its best, even if you’re not a tech wiz. And if you ever need help, it also gives you quick access to Lenovo services as well. And this is because it also connects to a bigger network of cloud-based AI services for Lenovo’s partners. So, you have all the access to tons of all the cool features down the line.
Gaming Zone
Here’s something a little extra cool inside of Legion Space, which is called the Gaming Zone. This is where Lenovo added some AI-power tools not only for playing but also to get better and even sharing your gameplay as well.
There’s even the Game Clip Master, which is perfect if you do a lot of streaming where it automatically edits the hours of footage into short highlight reels ready to push it on your social media platforms. And then finally, there’s the Game Companion, an AI avatar that reacts to your gameplay, cheering you on and dropping tips when you need them.
So yeah, this particular gaming zone makes this feel more than just a laptop. It almost feels like it’s having a coach, an editor, and a hypeman built right in.
Creator-focused Features
If you’re thinking whether this laptop is only great for gaming, well, you’ll also be happy to know that it’s also really good for creators too. So, together with this great processor, GPU, OLED display, and portability, you have a superpowered production machine that can be used to work anywhere.
I tried editing videos on DaVinci Resolve and it crunches through anything that I throw at it, especially for 4K video editing. So, yes, even if you’re not a gamer, this would be a fantastic option purely for content creation alone.
Battery Life
We can all agree that power is great, but what about the battery? Battery life was decent because it lasted about 5 hours before I had to plug in the charger. And this is for normal use like browsing, writing, and a whole lot of binge watching on YouTube and Netflix. But with heavy gaming or video editing, of course, the battery drains faster, which is to be expected.
Conclusion
So, what do I think about this laptop? Well, it does replace two things: your gaming and your productivity. But during my use, I kind of feel like this is a triple-threat kind of laptop because it’s a gaming laptop, a creator laptop, and even an AI laptop because it does all of those very well.
