New AirTag Rumoured for ‘Awe Dropping’ 10 September Event

Apple’s Next-Gen AirTag Reportedly Set for Unveiling at ‘Awe Dropping’ Event

Apple’s highly anticipated “Awe Dropping” event on 10 September is now the subject of new speculation, with reports suggesting that the successor to the AirTag item tracker is poised for a grand unveiling. This news follows the device’s previous projected launch window of mid-2025, which passed without a release.

Next-Gen AirTag Rumours

Earlier this year, reports indicated that the new AirTag was “nearly ready” for launch. However, as the mid-year window concluded, new rumours have surfaced, redirecting attention to Apple’s annual fall keynote. Sources, including 9to5Mac, speculate that the new tracker will be announced alongside other flagship products, such as the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, a new iteration of AirPods, and a new Apple Watch.

The next-generation AirTag is said to prioritise functional enhancements over a significant redesign. According to Gurman, the device is expected to look “similar to the current model” while incorporating several key internal upgrades. These include an improved wireless chip for greater precision and range, enhanced privacy features, and better safeguards against tampering.

While these details remain unconfirmed and are based on industry rumours, the possibility of a new AirTag debut in less than two weeks has generated considerable excitement. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement to see if the rumoured features and the device itself will make an appearance.
