The collaboration, detailed in a letter of intent signed by the two companies, is aimed at advancing the frontier of artificial intelligence and scaling the benefits of this technology globally. The first phase of the deployment is slated for the second half of 2026 and will utilise NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform.

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the long-standing relationship between the companies. “NVIDIA and OpenAI have pushed each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT,” Huang said. “This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward—deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”

Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, emphasised the foundational role of compute infrastructure in the future economy. “Everything starts with compute,” Altman stated. “Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilise what we’re building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.”

According to the announcement, OpenAI will designate NVIDIA as its preferred strategic partner for compute and networking as it scales its AI factory plans. Both companies will work in tandem to co-optimise their respective roadmaps for software and hardware.
