OnePlus Ends Hasselblad Collaboration to Launch ‘DetailMax Engine’
Following a highly successful five-year collaboration, OnePlus has officially announced the conclusion of its exclusive partnership with legendary camera manufacturer Hasselblad, confirming previous reports swirling online. In a strategic shift, the company revealed its new in-house imaging system, the “OnePlus DetailMax Engine,” which is set to debut on its next flagship smartphone, widely rumoured to be the OnePlus 15.

The partnership, which began with the OnePlus 9 series in 2021 and continued through the OnePlus 13, was described by OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau as a “masterclass” and a “planned chapter complete.” Lau emphasised that while the formal collaboration has ended, the experience and “refined aesthetic sense” from Hasselblad have been permanently woven into the core of OnePlus’s imaging development.
The decision to develop the DetailMax Engine stems from extensive user feedback. The company noted that consumers desire “clear and real” photos, particularly when using digital zoom. The new engine is designed to address this by leveraging advanced computational photography algorithms to deliver images with “unmatched depth and realism,” minimising over-beautification and distortion. Lau confirmed he is already testing an early prototype and is confident in the results.
This move marks a significant step for OnePlus as it aims to establish a unique camera identity in the competitive smartphone market. The company’s parent, OPPO, recently extended its own partnership with Hasselblad, which suggests a strategic differentiation within the larger corporate ecosystem, with OPPO’s upcoming Find X9 series continuing to feature Hasselblad imaging.
The OnePlus 15 is expected to launch in China later this year, with a global release to follow in early 2026. The new DetailMax Engine is poised to be a cornerstone feature of this device, signalling a new era for OnePlus’s approach to mobile photography.
