For a while now, OnePlus has been teasing a new Nord device and we finally have word on when it will be launched and what it will be called. They announced that the OnePlus Nord CE 5G (these names really need to get shorter) will launch this week, and TechRadar seems to have a render of the device straight from OnePlus themselves.
The device seems to be a stripped down version of the original OnePlus Nord and does in fact look a lot like the original Nord as well. The head of OnePlus Products, Oliver Zhang told TechRadar that the CE in the name stands for “Core Edition” and is meant to be referring to the design philosophy of the Nord and how their goal with this product was to distill the product down to the most important things.
He went on to say that there are many midrange devices in the market that have exaggerated specifications and with the Nord CE, the company aims to keep just the things that really make a difference to the smartphone experience such as Warp Charge 30T Plus, a fast 90Hz display and 5G.
OnePlus themselves in the past have been guilty of doing the same thing by exaggerating features such as the “quad-camera” on the Nord which included a depth and macro lens. The Nord 5G from what we know so far will have a triple camera setup, hopefully including an ultra wide and a telephoto lens. The main attraction of the device would be cameras and the5G capabilities for hopefully a low price.
Leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter) has posted a few details about the device including a 64MP main sensor, a headphone jack and a body that is 7.9mm thick. The full device will be unveiled on June 10th an is being targeted at the European and Indian markets according to TechRadar.
