Hey guys, Adam Lobo here from Adam Lobo TV, and in this article, I will be unboxing and giving you my first impressions of the OPPO A74 5G, so let’s check it out!
Unboxing
Starting from the unboxing, the box comes in white with OPPO A74 at the top, with the visuals of the phone in the middle. Then at the back, you will find some of the specs and the color together with the variant that you choose.

Sliding open the box cover and opening another cover inside, reveals another smaller box which contains the SIM ejector pin, the user guide, and a clear phone case.

Nice one, OPPO! Because who gives this nowadays right?
Then you will find the phone itself. Underneath, there are the earphones (nice one again!), a USB-A to USB-C Cable and an 18-watt fast charger.

Build Quality
Next looking at the phone’s design and build, it is really refreshing to hold a light phone as flagship phones these days are getting heavier by the day, so the phone did feel pretty nice to hold during my initial impressions of the phone.
I have to say that I love the finish at the back, where it had a glossy plastic back and the gradient like finish surely didn’t make the phone looked like it was trying too hard to stand out where instead it looked a bit more on a classy stylish finish, especially with the matte grey frames at the sides.
And the variant that I have is called the Fluid Black and it is also available in Space Silver.

Speaking of the back again, I also appreciated the rather medium-sized camera bump which made the phone have no issues at all when typing it on a surface.
The display in front is flat with a hole punch camera cut out towards the far left and not sure if it is because I have been using a lot of flagships recently, but I did find the camera hole punch to be bigger than usual, but that could be just me but do let me know what you guys think.
Ports & Buttons
As for the phone’s ports and buttons, down below other than the USB-C port, there is a mono-firing speaker down there, so no stereo speakers on this. And you will find the very welcoming headphones jack towards the bottom left.
On the right, you will find the concave style side fingerprint and power button, and the volume rockers are on the left together with the SIM ejector and microSD card expansion slot.
Display
Next looking at the phone’s screen, it has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD Display, which OPPO calls the Hyper Color Screen, with a resolution of 1080 by 2400 pixels FHD+ with a refresh rate of 90 hertz which is kind of expected for a mid-range smartphone.
And during my initial impressions, the screen did look great, and when it comes to viewing angles, and video consumption on the phone did look nice indeed since it has both Netflix HD and Amazon Prime Video HD Certification which was extra sweet.
Camera
As for the camera’s specs:
- the main lens is quite a huge 48 MP, f/1.7, 26mm (wide angle lens), where this lens apparently supports a 108-megapixel synthetic imaging to reconstruct the pixels to reach that high value.
- Then there is an 8 MP, f/2.2, (ultrawide lens)
- a 2 MP f/2.4 Macro Lens, and
- a 2 MP f/2.4 Depth Sensor
Then as for the front camera, it has a 16-megapixel f/2.0 26mm wide lens.
As for the video, both the rear and the front camera records up to 1080p at 30 frames per second.
Taking a couple of shots on the phone for the rear and front camera looked pretty good too, where the video quality was great although it records only at 1080p with great image stabilization.
Specifications
As for the insides of the phone, it comes with the Snapdragon 480 5G (8 nm) Chipset, with the Adreno 619 GPU and the variant that I have is the 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage and since the phone is 5G compatible, it does make the phone to be future proof.
And the phone supports both Standalone and Non-Standalone Network support so it will switch accordingly to the range. I did talk about this one of my videos before which I will link it down below of the benefits of having a phone which has that.

Software
In terms of software, backed with Android 11, it comes shipped with the Color OS 11.1 skin, where like the other OPPO smartphones, it ran great with no issues at all, even during my first impressions of this phone.
Battery
Then finally when it comes to the phone’s battery, here is where I was surprised because remember I mentioned how light the phone was?
Well the phone actually has 5000 milliamps of battery so kudos to OPPO for giving a huge battery without adding a crazy weight to the phone.
Then the phone has fast charging up to 18 watts, not the fastest for a mid range smartphone standards, but considering its really low price I didn’t mind that since it can charge up to 60% within 60 minutes and let’s see how the battery life is when I use the phone longer daily, to see how much of a screen on time that I get on the phone.
Price
As for the phone’s price here in Malaysia, the OPPO A74 5G is going for an amazing price of RM1,099 and I will leave a link below if you are planning to get yourself one as it is already available on Shopee since the 5th of May.
