Look no notch! Yes, it seems the notch-less future is one step closer to being a reality as Oppo revealed its new Under-Screen Camera technology during MWC Shanghai 2019.
While other manufacturers have tried all manner of solutions from punch-hole cameras to motorised pop-up cameras, Oppo looks to beat them in their own game with this technology. The company had earlier teased this technology in a Twitter post earlier this month.
According to the company it achieved this feat by redesigning the pixel structure on the screen area where the camera is hidden beneath. By using highly transparent material for the screen, this allows for more light to pass through to the camera module.
With some custom algorithm, Oppo has been able to include features like haze removal, HDR and auto white balance.
Though all this sounds great on paper, we will have to reserve our judgement once we finally see the technology at work on a consumer device.
