Terengganu Government Launches Portal Jodoh Darul Iman, an Online Matchmaking Portal to Boost Marriage Rates
The Terengganu government has officially launched the Portal Jodoh Darul Iman (PJDI), an online platform designed to facilitate the matchmaking process for young men and women in the state. The initiative, announced by State Welfare, Women’s Development, Family and National Unity Committee chairman Maliaman Kassim, aims to increase marriage and birth rates and help delay the state from becoming an ageing society.
The Portal Jodoh Darul Iman was launched on Wednesday by Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar at Wisma Darul Iman.
Maliaman stated that for its initial phase, the portal is targeting 500 participants this year and is exclusively available to unmarried individuals, as well as single mothers and fathers who are Muslim residents of Terengganu. He explained that by encouraging young people to get married and have children, the portal serves a broader goal of demographic stability for the state.
To ensure the platform’s integrity and prevent fraudulent activities, Maliaman confirmed that participants are required to provide various personal details, including their identity card numbers. He said a team from the Family Development Foundation would be responsible for verifying the submitted data. “If a participant falsifies their identity, we will detect it and immediately remove them from participation,” he said.
The matchmaking process involves participants submitting their preferred criteria for a spouse, along with details about themselves. The portal’s secretariat will then match suitable candidates. The first meeting between a matched pair will be supervised by a representative from the secretariat, including a marriage counsellor. Subsequent steps, such as engagement and marriage, will be handled by the families involved. Maliaman also mentioned that improvements to the portal’s interface and candidate criteria will be implemented over time.
