ASUS Announces ROG Xbox Ally Handhelds to Launch in October

Gamers, get ready! ASUS Republic of Gamers has announced that the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X gaming handhelds will hit store shelves on 16 October. The official launch date was revealed at Gamescom 2025, where both devices are available for hands-on demos.

Optimised for Handheld Gaming

To ensure a smooth gaming experience, the Xbox team has developed a new Handheld Compatibility Program. This initiative tests and optimises thousands of PC games for handheld devices. At launch, games in the library will be marked with one of two badges:

  • Handheld Optimised: These games are ready to play right away with default controller settings, clear text, and appropriate resolutions.
  • Mostly Compatible: These games may require minor adjustments to in-game settings for an optimal experience.

The Xbox team is also implementing advanced shader delivery, allowing games to preload shaders during download. This feature helps supported games launch up to 10x faster and run more smoothly while conserving battery life.

Power and Performance

The ROG Xbox Ally features an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor with 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 60Wh battery.

The more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X is built for a premium experience, boasting an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme APU with a built-in NPU, 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, a 1TB SSD, and a larger 80Wh battery. The integrated NPU in the Ally X will unlock upcoming AI-powered features, including Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) for upscaling games and the ability to generate highlight reels of gameplay moments.
