Samsung Spells Out Which Galaxy AI Features Will Still Be Free Come 2026
Samsung has finally provided clear guidance on the future pricing of its highly-touted Galaxy AI features, confirming that core functionalities integrated “on your phone by default” will remain free of charge for users. This announcement comes after a year of ambiguity following Samsung’s initial statement that some Galaxy AI features might require a paid subscription after the end of 2025.
Relieving User Concerns
Previously, Samsung had indicated that Galaxy AI features would be free only until the end of 2025, leading to uncertainty among users. The lack of specific details on which features would be affected caused concern among the large base of Galaxy device owners who have come to rely on these AI-powered tools.
Core Galaxy AI Features to Remain Free

In a recent clarification to Android Police, Samsung reportedly stated that a comprehensive list of default Galaxy AI features will continue to be accessible without any subscription fees. This includes:
- Live Translate
- Note Assist in Samsung Notes
- Zoom Nightography
- Audio Eraser
- Browse Assist
- Generative Assist
- Now Brief
- Photo Assist
- Voice Recorder
- Transcript Assist
These features are developed directly by Samsung and are deeply integrated into the phone’s native applications and functionalities.
Google Gemini-Powered Features: A Separate Consideration
The distinction, it appears, lies in the underlying technology. While Samsung’s in-house AI features will remain free, features leveraging Google’s Gemini AI model are subject to Google’s own pricing policies. These Google-powered functionalities will continue to be free until such a time as Google itself decides to introduce charges for their use. It’s worth noting that Google already offers a subscription-based “Gemini Advanced” plan, which provides access to more powerful AI capabilities.
