Samsung Reportedly Cancelled A Cheaper Z Flip

The Z Flip 3 and the Z Fold 3 are expected to be launched in the next few weeks and these devices will be Samsung’s latest entry into the foldable market. However, it sounds like the company were working on a cheaper foldable as well.

News outlet, The Korea Herald reports that Samsung were expected to launch a Galaxy Z Flip 3 Lite in addition to the two other foldables this year. The firm cites unspecified rumors for the Lite model’s existence, adding that it’s a “mass-market model with a more affordable price tag.”

The existence of this device however was brought into question by display industry insider Ross Young. He claimed last week that the Lite model had been canceled due to the ongoing chip shortage.

Young also stated that the Z Flip 3 will now be priced at where the Lite was supposed to be. We usually take the analyst’s non-display-related posts with a pinch of salt, but we’ve previously heard rumours about a cheaper Z Flip 3 price.

This would not be the first time that rumours have circulated about a potential cheaper Flip device so we will just have to wait for August to see how many foldables Samsung do end up launching.
