Samsung Wallet in Malaysia Now Supports NFC Access Cards
Samsung Wallet, the integrated digital wallet solution for Samsung Galaxy users, is continuously expanding its capabilities to offer unparalleled convenience and security. A significant recent development for users in Malaysia is the enhanced support for adding NFC access cards directly to the app. This feature promises to streamline daily routines, allowing individuals to navigate their workspaces, residential buildings, and other restricted areas with just a tap of their smartphone.

Samsung Wallet, which unifies the features of Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass, is designed to be a comprehensive digital hub. It securely stores a wide array of digital items, from credit and debit cards to loyalty programs, digital keys, and even health passes. The platform’s ability to leverage both Near Field Communication (NFC) and, on some older devices, Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technologies, facilitates seamless contactless interactions and payments. Security remains a top priority, with Samsung Wallet underpinned by the robust Samsung Knox security platform, ensuring sensitive data is protected through features like fingerprint recognition, encryption, and tokenisation.
The Growing Utility of NFC Access Cards in Samsung Wallet
The inclusion of NFC access card support marks a notable leap forward in Samsung Wallet’s utility for Malaysian users. This capability allows for the digitisation of various NFC-enabled cards, reducing the need to carry multiple physical cards. Imagine effortlessly entering your office building, gym, or even your condominium, simply by tapping your Samsung Galaxy device.
This feature is particularly beneficial for:
- Office Access Cards: Gaining entry to workplaces or specific departments.
- Residential Access Cards: Accessing condominiums, gated communities, or specific facilities within them.
- Gym Membership Cards: Tapping in for your workout sessions.
- Event Passes: Streamlining entry to conferences or other ticketed events.
This growing integration aims to simplify daily interactions, contributing to a truly “wallet-free” experience for compatible cards. So no more excuses to not go to the gym, folks.
How to Add an NFC Access Card to Samsung Wallet

Adding an NFC access card to your Samsung Wallet is pretty much a straightforward process, designed for user ease. While the exact steps might vary slightly depending on the specific card and its underlying technology, the specifics are largely the same.
Here’s a general guide:
- Launch Samsung Wallet: Open the Samsung Wallet application on your compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
- Initiate Card Addition: Tap the “+” icon, usually located at the top right corner of the app’s home screen, or look for an “Add” button.
- Select “Digital Keys (NFC access card)”: Among the various card categories (Payment cards, Membership cards, etc.), you should now find an option specifically for “Digital Keys” or “NFC access card.” Select this option.
- Scan Your Physical Card: The app will prompt you to place your physical NFC access card against the back of your phone. Hold it steadily so the device can read the card’s data via NFC.
- Follow On-Screen Prompts: The app will guide you through any additional steps, which may include:
- Confirmation: Verifying the card details that have been read.
- Security Measures: Depending on the type of access card and its issuer, you might be asked to complete a verification step.
- Saving the Card: Once successfully recognised and processed, the digital version of your access card will be added to your Samsung Wallet.
However, it’s worth noting that while the NFC version of the Touch ‘n Go card is widely used in Malaysia and supports reloads via the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app, directly adding it to Samsung Wallet for usage as a virtual card hasn’t been successful for us in our attempts. This functionality might require specific partnerships or technical integrations between Touch ‘n Go and Samsung Wallet, and we hope to see this feature added sometime in the future to further enhance convenience for Malaysian users. Fingers crossed!
Important Things to Consider:
- Device Compatibility: Ensure your Samsung Galaxy smartphone is equipped with NFC capabilities, which is standard in most modern Samsung devices.
- Card Issuer Support: The ability to digitise specific NFC access cards relies on the card issuer or the access control system provider having partnered with Samsung Wallet. While Samsung is actively expanding this feature in Malaysia, it’s advisable to check with your building management or card issuer for specific compatibility.
- Internet Connection: An active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) is generally required for the initial setup and registration of access cards.
