2020 was a huge year for Samsung in terms of their smartphones, with the launch of the Galaxy S20 line receiving a lot of rave reviews. However, the line of smartphone that stole the show had to be their foldable series. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G were what some reviewers called the best foldable smartphones so far, and they were not wrong. Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was a rather complete foldable and was one that seemed less fragile compared to the original Fold. With everyone excited about what 2021 has in store for Samsung, the question remains, when exactly are we going to see the next generation of these smartphones?

Chinese outlet ITHome has reported that the Z Flip 3, Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy S21 FE are set to be released in August and not the previously reported July release date. Samsung S line of smartphones were launched a whole month earlier than the usual launch dates, which has messed up their usual roadmap but August seems like a very likely time for these smartphones to launch. Last year, the Galaxy S20 FE launched in October, the Galaxy Z Flip launched in July and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 launching in August. This rumour would put the Z Fold at the same release date while pushing the Z Flip and S21 SE a few months later and a few months earlier.

Many rumours have suggested that the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3 would launch together and that makes sense as Samsung seems to be streamlining the numbering of the foldable line as well, however the S21 FE is a bit of a wildcard here but it is still possible for it to launch at the same time as there does not seem to be any other time to launch the device. There may not be any other time to launch the device because rumour has it, Samsung will be killing off the Note line.

With the successful launch of their foldables, and the Galaxy Note 20 meeting subpar reviews, there have been many circulating reports saying that Samsung may add stylus support to probably the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which will in turn be the replacement to the Note line. While it is sad to see the Note line get killed off, it does make sense for Samsung to do this as they certainly do believe that foldable smartphones are the future and it does not make sense to have two different lines of smartphones aimed at professionals and power users.

While nothing is set in stone, an August release and the death of the Note line do seem very likely. 2021 is looking to be a very exciting year for Samsung, so let’s hope they live up to the hype.
