On the 1st of July, Telekom Malaysia (TM) signed an agreement with the Malaysian government to develop and operate the country’s new emergency response system, Next Generation Emergency Services 999 (NG999). This advanced system will replace the existing Malaysian Emergency Responses System (MERS999).
TM Leads the Way with Next-Generation Technology for Emergency Response
NG999 promises a significant upgrade, leveraging digital technologies to improve response times and overall efficiency. It will integrate features like web-based digital maps, caller ID, geolocation services, and a dedicated mobile app for registered users. This app will allow for crucial updates through text, photos, and videos, providing emergency responders with a clearer picture of the situation on the ground.
“TM is honoured to be entrusted as the Malaysian government’s partner in this initiative,” said Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM’s Group CEO. “NG999 represents a leap forward for emergency services, enabling swifter and more effective responses.”
Inspired by Global Best Practices, Powered by AI
NG999 draws inspiration from leading international emergency response systems like the European Emergency Number Association’s NG112 and North America’s National Emergency Number Association’s NG911. It will also incorporate advanced technologies like data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimise emergency response tactics.
This project signifies TM’s commitment to Malaysia’s digital transformation goals under the “Digital Malaysia” initiative. By harnessing the power of AI, NG999 aspires to make Malaysia a digital powerhouse by 2030.
A Commitment to Public Safety Through Collaboration
The introduction of NG999 goes beyond just technological advancements. TM collaborates with various government agencies. It also works with law enforcement personnel and emergency dispatchers. Together, they aim to deliver a comprehensive and well-coordinated emergency response system. The system prioritises public safety.
