WhatsApp Introduces ‘Guest Chats’ Feature, Bridging Communication Gap with Non-Users
WhatsApp is currently testing an innovative new “guest chats” feature designed to allow its users to communicate with individuals who do not have an active WhatsApp account. This development, first uncovered by WABetaInfo in the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.22.13), marks a significant step towards broader communication accessibility.

The “guest chat” feature enables WhatsApp users to generate and send a unique chat link via text message, email, or social media to contacts who are not on the platform. Upon opening the link, the non-WhatsApp user is directed to a web-based interface, similar to WhatsApp Web, where they can engage in an end-to-end encrypted conversation with the WhatsApp user. This eliminates the need for the guest to download the app or create an account, streamlining the initial interaction.
However, the new feature comes with certain limitations. Guest chat participants will not be able to send media files, GIFs, or voice messages, nor will they be able to initiate video calls. The functionality is designed to operate entirely within WhatsApp’s own ecosystem, focusing primarily on text-based communication.
While currently in beta for Android, the “guest chats” feature is expected to be rolled out to the regular WhatsApp Android and iOS applications in the near future, further expanding the platform’s reach and enhancing user connectivity.
