Qualcomm Taps Xiaomi to Debut Its Next Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor
Qualcomm’s latest financial earnings report delivered more than just impressive revenue figures; it also confirmed a significant development in the world of mobile technology. During the call, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon announced that smartphone maker Xiaomi will be the first OEM to launch a device powered by the company’s upcoming next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
The new chipset, tentatively referred to as the “Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2,” is slated for an official unveiling at the Snapdragon Summit at the end of September. The news that Xiaomi will be the first to feature this new chip is a testament to the strengthening partnership between the two companies, who have already worked together to power 124 smartphone designs with the current Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.

This is not a new role for Xiaomi, which has frequently been among the first to announce a new phone with the latest Snapdragon flagship processor. The company’s collaboration with Qualcomm extends beyond smartphones, with both companies working together on advancements in areas like automotive and extended reality (XR).
While specific details about the upcoming Xiaomi device are under wraps, the announcement sets the stage for a highly anticipated launch. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite is expected to push the boundaries of on-device AI performance, an area Qualcomm CEO Amon highlighted during the call as key to reshaping the mobile industry. With the company’s focus on AI processing and a strong partnership with a major OEM like Xiaomi, Qualcomm is poised to solidify its position as a leader in the next era of mobile technology.
