YouTube Premium, the ad-free subscription service for YouTube, has announced a price increase for Malaysian users. The new rates will affect all of its current plans, from Student to Family plans.
YouTube Premium Price Hike
Individual and Family Plans Affected
The most significant price hike is for the Family Plan, which now costs RM41.90 per month, an increase of RM8 from the previous rate. The Individual Plan has also seen a slight increase, going from RM17.90 to RM20.90 per month. For students, the monthly fee has risen from RM10.90 to RM12.90.
Existing Subscribers Given Grace Period
Current Premium subscribers will not see the price increase immediately. In my case, the new rates will take effect on the 3rd of November.
Benefits of YouTube Premium
YouTube Premium offers several benefits, including:
- Ad-free viewing: Enjoy videos without interruptions from ads.
- Offline downloads: Download videos for viewing offline.
- Background playback: Play videos in the background while using other apps or with the screen locked.
- YouTube Music Premium: Access a vast library of over 100 million songs ad-free and download music for offline listening.
Family Plan Value
The Family Plan continues to offer value, especially when shared among multiple users. Even with the increased price, it can be a cost-effective option for families or groups of friends.
The price increase in Malaysia is likely a result of rising costs and the need to continue providing high-quality service to users. While the new rates may be a disappointment for some, Premium still offers significant benefits for those who value an ad-free and enhanced viewing experience.
