The Rumour Mill: A Pro Pixel 6?

Earlier this week, we reported on the leaked Pixel 6 design that was shown off by Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech but since then, there have been more developments in the world of Pixel.

Reliable leaker OnLeaks has shown off a new, bold design for the Pixel 6 Pro, Google’s flagship for 2021. Based on the picture above, the Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.67-inch curved display and a rear triple camera setup, all firsts for the pixel. The camera setup is also allegedly going to include a periscope style telephoto lens. The report from OnLeaks also suggests that the Pro model will include an OLED screen but it does not say anything about the resolution or the refresh rate this model will pack.

The phone is however expected to have dual speakers and wireless charging which were both present in the Pixel 5. In terms of the design, the camera is now placed horizontally and is raised. It also features an accent colour on the panel above it.

The regular Pixel 6 is reported to come with Google’s very own Whitechapel SOC on board but this report suggests that the Pixel 6 Pro will arrive with the traditional Snapdragon 888 processor. This makes sense as the Whitechapel chip might be more of a upper midrange chip and Google would want their “Pro” device to have the latest and best chip on board. The naming from “XL” to “Pro” could also be important as Google’s bigger model has always been a same phone, bigger screen affair but by ditching the XL, it indicates that Google is indeed making a higher end device.

Rather than taking a boring approach towards their design as Google normally does, the Pixel 6 series is looking like a device that wants to compete in the big leagues, but the question remains, is Google ready to compete in the big leagues?
