A few years have passed since Huawei lost the ability to release phones pre-installed with Google Play Services but in that time they have been working on an operating system of their own, an Android alternative, that has been known as HarmonyOS. A few months ago, a developer version of the operating system was released in China but it looks like Huawei is gearing up to release the new software really soon.
The Chinese manufacturer took to its HarmonyOS Weibo account to post a video confirming a June 2 2021 launch date at 8 PM GMT+8. It’s since posted a video to YouTube as well, suggesting that this is aimed at a wider market. People who had access to the developer preview have described the OS as Android 10 with EMUI but certain reports have stated than the new version of HarmonyOS that is set to be released will not be similar to the developer preview. Huawei has also promised that HarmonyOS will come equipped with more seamless cross-device capabilities (e.g. using a TV and webcam for a video lesson and a tablet for supplementary material), an adaptive UI, and faster cross-device data transfers.

June 2nd is not too far away so we will not have to wait too long to see Huawei’s own OS and see if it can truly be an Android competitor.
