Beloved indie game publisher Annapurna Interactive is facing a major upheaval after its entire staff resigned. The move comes following failed negotiations to spin off the gaming division into an independent entity.
Annapurna Interactive Loses Entire Staff
The news, confirmed by Bloomberg and IGN, has sent shockwaves through the gaming community. Annapurna Interactive is best known for its acclaimed titles like Stray, Outer Wilds, and What Remains of Edith Finch. Moreover, the company has made a significant impact on the indie game scene. As a result, its influence has steadily grown, becoming a prominent force in the industry.
The decision to resign was reportedly made collectively by the entire team. “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly,” former president Nathan Gary and staff members told Bloomberg.
The game publisher has not issued an official statement. However, the company’s film division, Annapurna Pictures, has confirmed that current games and projects will still fall under its management.
The departure of the entire staff comes amidst a period of transition for Annapurna Interactive. The company recently announced the departure of its coheads, Deborah Mars and Nathan Vella, and the appointment of Hector Sanchez, former head of the Unreal Engine games business at Epic Games, as president of interactive and new media.
The resignation of the staff raises questions about the future of Annapurna Interactive and its ability to continue producing high-quality indie games. While the company’s film division has been successful, the gaming division’s future remains uncertain.
