Apple Maps Goes Live on the Web
Apple today announced the public beta launch of Apple Maps on the web, marking a significant expansion of its mapping service. Users can now access detailed maps, navigation, and local information directly from their web browsers.
With this new web-based platform, users can easily obtain driving and walking directions, explore points of interest with photos, ratings, and reviews, and even order food directly through the Maps interface. Apple promises to introduce additional features, including the immersive Look Around experience, in the coming months.
Developers will also benefit from this expansion, as they can now integrate Maps into their web applications using MapKit JS, providing users with seamless access to maps and directions.
Currently available in English, Apple Maps on the web is compatible with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. The company plans to introduce support for additional languages, browsers, and platforms in the future.
This move positions Apple Maps as a more robust competitor to Google Maps, offering users a familiar interface and comprehensive features accessible from any web-enabled device.
