So, we are just one day away from Apple’s September “It’s Glowtime” event, so I’m going to break down what’s confirmed to be coming, the rumors, and what’s probably not making the cut.
What’s Definitely Coming
iPhone 16 Series
First up, the iPhone 16 lineup—no surprises here because it’s the usual September event, so it’s a given.
There’s a rumor about how the camera array on the iPhone 16 will be redesigned to have a vertically stacked camera instead of the diagonal camera layout. This new design change is apparently for the new video recording features, such as 3D and spatial video recording.
The Action button is also rumored to come with the non-pro iPhones as well.
The Pro models are going big—literally—with larger screens, most probably 6.3 and 6.9 inches, the biggest screens ever on an iPhone, instead of the 6.1 on the previous Pro and 6.7 on the Pro Max. These models will have faster chipsets, of course.
Plus, there’s talk of a new rumored Capture button, which will be a dedicated button to long-press to focus, slide to zoom, and press down hard to take pictures, and more.
They also might introduce new stacked battery tech for even better battery life. And, of course, we can expect some new colors too, according to the rumors. We’ll have to see about that.
The ultrawide lenses on the Pro models are also said to be upgraded. While last year’s rumored periscope lenses might not come, we can all hope and wish for that too.
Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3
Next is the Apple Watch. It’s the 10th generation, so this Series 10 will apparently have the biggest display yet—45mm and 49mm—and a newer, slimmer design that will also include the new chip, set up for future AI features or Apple Intelligence features.
Now, we are still not sure whether or not Apple will be releasing the Watch Ultra 3, but if they do, we might just expect a new black titanium color, which was rumored to be released last year.
What’s Rumored to Come
Exclusive AI Features for iPhone 16 Pro
Alright, now let’s get into the juicy rumors, shall we?
Word on the street is that Apple might be saving some extra AI, or Apple Intelligence goodies, for the iPhone 16 Pro models, where we could see some exclusive photo and video editing tools and many cool new tricks within the Apple Intelligence ecosystem, especially more on-device processing.
The “Glowtime” on the Apple invites does look more like the colors of Apple Intelligence, so this is more of an Erik Voss analysis, so let’s wait for that.
Faster Charging for iPhone 16 Pro
Speaking of Pro, there’s also talk about fast charging, up to 40W wired and 20W wireless. That is way faster than we’ve seen before on an iPhone, so I hope that will be the case.
AirPods 4th Generation
There’s also a heavy rumor on the AirPods 4. This is a 3-year overdue update, which apparently will get a new design with active noise cancellation for the first time, overall better audio quality, and longer battery life.
There’s even talk that the charging case might be more like AirPods Pro, complete with USB-C and built-in Find My support. It might also include the H2 chip from the AirPods Pro, which, if true, will definitely provide better audio and more battery life on these AirPods 4 as well.
iPad Mini Update
For the iPad Mini fans (that’s me!), there’s a rumor about a modest update with a new chip to support Apple’s latest Apple Intelligence features. But don’t expect any major redesign or flashy upgrades this year. But, guys, imagine the tandem OLED screen like on the new iPad Pro on this iPad Mini—oh God, please!
What’s Unlikely to Come
Budget Apple Vision Pro
Finally, for the stuff that’s probably not happening: the budget Apple Vision Pro. Yeah, don’t hold your breath because Apple seems to be focusing on flagship products for now, so a more affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro is unlikely as of now.
AirPods Max 2
As for the AirPods Max 2 fans, I hate to break it to you, but there’s no sign of it appearing at this event either. Maybe a tiny USB-C update, but that’s pretty much it.
Major Apple Watch Redesign
Regarding the Apple Watch: yes, this is the 10th generation Apple Watch, but there is no major Apple Watch redesign. So, that is definitely not happening this year, despite some early rumors. If you’re looking for a significant design change, it might be coming next year.
iPhone 16 Air
Lastly, there was a rumor that went on for a while and then just went silent: a thinner and lighter iPhone Air. Yeah, that is something I predict is not on Apple’s books to release anytime soon, or perhaps it could happen. We might just have to wait and see.
