Blizzard Looks to be Working on a New StarCraft Shooter

Blizzard’s Secret Project: A New StarCraft Shooter

In a recent episode of IGN’s Unlocked podcast, industry insider Jason Schreier dropped a bombshell: Blizzard is working on a new StarCraft game. The announcement came as a shock to many fans who haven’t seen a new installment in the beloved series since 2010.

Schreier, who is also promoting his upcoming book, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, revealed that the new StarCraft project is a shooter. This is a departure from the previously canceled StarCraft: Ghost and StarCraft: Ares, which were stealth and FPS games, respectively.

Leading the development of the new StarCraft shooter is Dan Hay, a veteran game developer known for his work on the Far Cry series at Ubisoft. Hay joined Blizzard in February 2022 as Vice President and GM, suggesting that development on the project may have started around that time.

The news of the new StarCraft shooter comes on the heels of Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, wearing a StarCraft t-shirt during the company’s Tokyo Game Show presentation. While the timing of the two events has sparked speculation, it’s unclear whether it’s a mere coincidence or a subtle trolling from Microsoft, which acquired Blizzard in 2022.

As fans eagerly await more details about the new StarCraft shooter, one thing is certain: the iconic series is far from dead.
