ChatGPT Expands on WhatsApp: Now Understands Images and Voice Notes

WhatsApp Users Can Now Talk to ChatGPT with Pictures & Audio

OpenAI has significantly enhanced its ChatGPT integration on WhatsApp, bringing the powerful AI chatbot closer to users with limited data or storage.

Following the initial launch in December, which restricted interactions to text input, ChatGPT now supports image and voice note input. Users can simply send pictures or record audio messages directly within WhatsApp, and the chatbot will process the information and respond with relevant text-based answers.

This update is particularly beneficial for users with limited data plans or slow internet connections, as it reduces the need to rely heavily on data-intensive app downloads and interactions.

Furthermore, OpenAI will soon allow users to sign into their ChatGPT accounts directly within WhatsApp. This will unlock access to premium features for subscribers to the Plus and Pro tiers, such as access to more advanced AI models, potentially bringing a more personalised experience to the messaging platform.

To start using these new features, simply save the number 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478) as a contact in your phone and relaunch WhatsApp. Alternatively, if you don’t want to save the number, you can enter https://wa.me/ on your browser followed by the phone number.

The official ChatGPT account will then appear in your contact list, ready for you to interact with using text, images, and voice messages.
