CMF by Nothing Unveils CMF Phone 2 Pro and Trio of Versatile Buds
Nothing’s sub-brand, CMF, has made a significant splash with the announcement of not one, but four exciting new products. Leading the charge is the CMF Phone 2 Pro. This smartphone, in particular, is poised to redefine its segment with an impressive blend of performance, advanced camera capabilities, a stunning display, and a premium design. In addition to the Phone 2 Pro, CMF also introduced a trio of audio companions. These include the CMF Buds 2, CMF Buds 2 Plus, and the CMF Buds 2a. Together, they cater to a wide range of audio needs and price points, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
CMF Phone 2 Pro: The Ultimate Daily Smartphone
The CMF Phone 2 Pro is being touted as the “ultimate daily smartphone,” and for good reason. This device appears to pack a serious punch, emphasizing segment-leading performance and a pro-level four-camera system designed to capture life’s moments with clarity and vibrancy.
Design and Build
CMF has clearly focused on refining the design language established with its first phone. The Phone 2 Pro is the slimmest and lightest smartphone Nothing has ever designed. Specifically, it measures just 7.8 mm thin and weighs only 185 g, marking a 5% reduction in thickness compared to its predecessor. In terms of design, the elegant body now features an aluminium camera surround, which is an evolution of the first-generation style. Additionally, it incorporates stainless steel screws, a signature Nothing detail that highlights the craftsmanship behind the device. Furthermore, durability has been enhanced with an IP54 rating for better water resistance, a clear step up from the CMF Phone 1’s IP52 rating.
Adding a touch of personality, the CMF Phone 2 Pro will be available in four distinct colours: White, Black, Orange, and Light Green. The Black and Light Green variants feature a sophisticated glass-like back with a frosted texture, complemented by a metallic frame. The White option offers a unique panelled sandstone finish for a distinctive feel and haptics. For those seeking a bolder statement, the Orange variant boasts a striking metallic sheen. CMF emphasizes that these iterations represent a “more sophisticated quality,” marking a considered step forward from the design of the original CMF Phone 1.
Camera System
Photography enthusiasts will likely be drawn to the CMF Phone 2 Pro’s advanced four-camera system. The highlight of the phone is its 50 MP main camera. Notably, it features what CMF claims is the largest sensor size in its class. As a result, it can capture 64% more light compared to the CMF Phone 1.
Additionally, for shooting distant subjects, the phone is equipped with a powerful telephoto lens that uses six stacked elements. Impressively, it offers up to 20x digital zoom — a rare feature in this smartphone segment. Finally, completing the rear camera setup is an 8 MP ultra-wide camera with an expansive field of view, making it perfect for capturing landscapes and cityscapes. On the front, a 16 MP camera is ready to deliver sharp and detailed selfies.
Performance and Battery
Powering the CMF Phone 2 Pro is the newly upgraded MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G processor, now in its 6th generation. This 8-core CPU can clock speeds of up to 2.5 GHz, promising smooth multitasking and responsiveness for even demanding users. CMF claims a 10% quicker processing and a 5% improvement in graphics compared to the CMF Phone 1. The processor is co-engineered using the state-of-the-art TSMC 4 nm process technology, which should translate to impressive power efficiency. Complementing this is a 5000 mAh battery, offering nearly an hour longer battery life than the Phone 1 and effortlessly powering through what CMF estimates as two days of use on a single charge.
Display
The CMF Phone 2 Pro features the largest display to date in the CMF range, a 6.77″ FHD+ flexible AMOLED display. This vibrant screen is capable of displaying a stunning 1.07 billion hues, significantly more than the CMF Phone 1. For enhanced visual experiences, the phone supports HDR photography, boosting colouration and vibrancy. Furthermore, Ultra HDR captures are said to enhance the brightness of highlights by 6 to 8 times. As a result, the display achieves a peak brightness of 3000 nits, marking a substantial 50% increase over its predecessor. Moreover, the display boasts a highly responsive 1000 Hz touch sampling rate, representing an impressive 316% improvement. Additionally, it features a smooth 120 Hz Adaptive refresh rate, ensuring fluid interactions whether you’re navigating apps or playing games.
Other Notable Features
Continuing the modularity of its predecessor, the CMF Phone 2 Pro retains support for three new accessories: a Universal Cover, Interchangeable Lenses (Fisheye and Macro), and a Wallet/Stand. A significant upgrade from the CMF Phone 1 is the inclusion of NFC support for contactless payments, a highly requested feature for modern smartphone users.
