Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Leaked Timeline Hints at September Announcement, October Debut

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Launch Window Revealed in New Leak

Barely six months after Qualcomm introduced its powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform in October 2024, whispers surrounding its successor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, are already gaining traction. The latest buzz centres around a potential launch timeline for this next-generation flagship chipset, suggesting an earlier arrival than its predecessor.

Expected Launch Timeline Surfaces

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Timeline Leak

According to a recent leak from the reputable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Qualcomm is reportedly gearing up to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 towards the end of September this year. The first wave of smartphones powered by this new silicon is expected to hit the market in October. This follows the recent announcement.

This timeline, if accurate, marks a slightly accelerated launch compared to the original Snapdragon 8 Elite, which debuted during Qualcomm’s Summit 2024 in Maui last October. The earlier unveiling could signal Qualcomm’s intent to maintain a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving mobile chipset landscape.

Xiaomi 16 Series Tipped as First Adopters

The leak also points towards the potential frontrunners in adopting the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. The highly anticipated Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro are rumoured to be the inaugural devices to feature this cutting-edge processor. This aligns with Xiaomi’s history of being among the first to embrace Qualcomm’s latest flagship offerings.

Snapdragon 8 Elite: Setting the Stage

The current Snapdragon 8 Elite has already powered a slew of prominent Android flagships released in recent times. For instance, devices like the Xiaomi 15 series, Vivo X200 Ultra, and OnePlus 13 harness the capabilities of this platform. Moreover, even Samsung, with its Galaxy S25 series, chose a customized version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Notably, this version features overclocked CPU and GPU performance, offering enhanced capabilities.

Anticipated Performance Upgrades

While official specifications remain under wraps, the 8 Elite 2 is widely expected to deliver substantial performance enhancements over its already formidable predecessor. These improvements are crucial as Android smartphones powered by this chip will directly compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series.

Previous leaks have offered glimpses into the potential upgrades. One leak suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will have a base frequency of 4.4GHz. This is a slight increase from the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s 4.32GHz. The new chipset is also rumoured to integrate second-generation Oryon CPU cores. These upgrades could deliver a significant 25 percent boost in performance compared to the current generation. In terms of memory, the chipset is expected to support both LPDDR5x and the newer, faster LPDDR6 RAM standards.
