COROS Introduces APEX 4 GPS Watch for Endurance Sports Market
COROS have announced the release of the APEX 4 GPS Watch. The new model, which succeeds the APEX series, is positioned for use by mountain athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, emphasising battery capacity, navigation accuracy, and durable construction.
The APEX 4, scheduled for release in Malaysia on 24 October, incorporates several hardware and software updates from the previous generation.
Key Technical Specifications and Features
The watch case is constructed with Grade 5 titanium, reinforced lugs, and sapphire glass, and it utilises a Memory-In-Pixel display designed to maintain visibility in varying light conditions. Regarding battery performance, the 46mm model is rated for up to 65 hours of continuous use in All-Systems GPS mode, while the 42mm model offers up to 41 hours.
For navigation, the device employs dual-frequency tracking and enhanced Vertical GPS Algorithms, designed to enhance location accuracy in challenging environments, including forests and high-altitude terrain. A dual-range barometer is also included.
For mapping, the device provides global topographic and landscape maps with street names and turn-by-turn navigation, with the maps rendered via an upgraded internal processor. Finally, new hardware for user interaction includes a built-in speaker and microphone, which support features like audible alerts, voice notes, and hands-free calling functionality.
Lewis Wu, COROS CEO and Co-Founder, commented that the APEX 4’s design criteria, including material choices, battery longevity, and software development, were focused on meeting the requirements of endurance athletes in alpine environments.
The APEX 4 software features dedicated modes for various outdoor activities, including trail running, climbing (with automatic route detection and fall detection), and ski touring. It also integrates health tracking features, monitoring metrics such as Heart Rate Variability (HRV), SpO2, sleep, and training load.
Price and Availability
The COROS APEX 4 will be available in two case sizes, 42mm and 46mm. Retail pricing in Malaysia is set at RM2,099 and RM2,299, respectively. Colour options include Black and White, paired with a silicone band.
