Your TV Just Got Smarter: Gemini Comes to Google TV

Google Brings Gemini AI to Google TV

Google announced a major upgrade for its smart TV platform, bringing its powerful conversational AI, Gemini, to Google TV. The new integration promises to transform the way users interact with their televisions, moving beyond simple commands to offer free-flowing, natural conversations.

The launch marks a significant shift from the existing Google Assistant, which has long been a staple of the Google TV experience. While all of Google Assistant’s previous functions remain, Gemini elevates the experience by enabling more complex and nuanced interactions. Users can now engage in a back-and-forth dialogue to find the perfect content, get detailed information, or even use their television as a powerful learning tool.

Key features of Gemini on Google TV include:

  • Effortless Entertainment Discovery: Finding a show for a group is now as simple as a conversation. Users can ask for recommendations based on a combination of preferences, such as “Find me something to watch with my wife. I like dramas, but she likes lighthearted comedies.” Gemini can also provide instant recaps of previous seasons or identify shows from vague descriptions.
  • Learning on the Big Screen: Gemini transforms the TV into an educational hub. The AI can provide helpful answers to complex questions, such as explaining how volcanoes erupt, and even provide supporting YouTube videos for a step-by-step guide on topics like learning to play the guitar or making a quick dessert.

Gemini on Google TV is available now on the TCL QM9K series. Google has confirmed that a wider rollout is planned for later this year on a variety of devices, including the Google TV Streamer. 4K Pro, and several 2025 models from Hisense (U7, U8, and UX) and TCL (QM7K, QM8K, and X11K).
