Gemini Will Soon Have Access to Users’ Google Data for a More Personal AI Assistant

Gemini to Become More Personal, Proactive, and Powerful, Google Reveals

Google is set to redefine the AI assistant landscape with its upcoming enhancements to Gemini. According to a recent announcement by Google VP Josh Woodward, Gemini is being developed to be the most personal, proactive, and powerful assistant yet.

Gemini: Personalised Context at the Forefront

A key focus is on personalisation. Google is working to give Gemini access to a user’s Google context, including Gmail, Photos, Calendar, Search, and YouTube. This “personalized context” (or “pcontext,” as it’s called internally) will allow Gemini to provide highly tailored assistance. The assistant will soon remember past chats, and this expanded access to user data, with user permission, promises to make interactions far more relevant and efficient.

Google also aims to make the AI model more proactive, anticipating user needs and offering insights or taking actions before being prompted. This shift from a reactive to a proactive model is expected to free up users’ time and mental space.

Enhanced Capabilities Through Advanced Models

Gemini’s capabilities are being significantly boosted by Google DeepMind models, such as the 2.5 Pro. These models enable Gemini to perform complex tasks, including research, workflow orchestration, and the creation of images, videos, and code. This will empower users to turn their ideas into reality with greater ease.

Google’s Infrastructure to Power Free Access

Google’s powerful infrastructure, including Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), will support these advancements. The company plans to make these features available for free, particularly for students.

Rapid Development and User Feedback

Google is emphasising rapid iteration based on user feedback. Recent updates, within the last 3.5 weeks, include Gemini 2.5 Flash, Veo 2 for video generation, free Gemini plans for U.S. students, LaTeX support, and image upload and editing capabilities.

More details about these upcoming features are expected to be unveiled at Google I/O, where Josh Woodward and Demis Hassabis will provide further insights. The event is scheduled in less than 20 days.
