Google Pixel 9a: A Closer Look
The Google Pixel 9 series has recently launched. However, one more eagerly awaited model is still on the way—the Pixel 9a. Its official release is expected around Google I/O next year. Thanks to Onleaks, we now have an early look at its possible design.
A Familiar Yet Updated Aesthetic
One of the most notable changes this year is the camera bar. It’s designed to be nearly flush with the back of the device, possibly with a slight ring around it. This design certainly corroborates with what we saw in the leaks from a couple of months ago. The Pixel 9a retains the same camera layout as the Pixel 9, featuring an ultrawide and a wide camera. However, the bezels around the display are noticeably larger, which is expected for a phone priced under USD500 (~RM2,086).
The Pixel 9a is poised to offer a unique advantage over its more premium siblings: it will launch with Android 15, which is set to roll out on October 15. Moreover, it will receive seven years of updates, mirroring the support provided to the Pixel 8a.
The Pixel 9a could be the last Pixel device to utilise a Samsung-designed processor. The Pixel 10 is rumoured to feature a fully Google-customised processor manufactured by TSMC. Despite this, the 9a could prove to be a compelling option, especially at the right price point.
While the final specifications are yet to be confirmed, it’s anticipated that the Pixel 9a will closely resemble the Pixel 8a in terms of core features. This includes a 6.1-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The device is likely to be powered by the Tensor G4 processor and may feature a slightly larger battery compared to its predecessor.
